I heard him on the radio a few times and was not influenced by his rhetorical and oftentimes pious-sounding sermons, but I never saw him as guilty of anything more than conservatism.
I imagine that it would be somewhat boring to be a student at his college and be forced to listen to him every day, though. I never knew the man personally, so I can't either attack nor defend his personal character. I can only say that Pavarotti's death had a bigger impact to me.

may he soon meet the god he's so badly represented. Since you are an uneducated Atheist, logically, this tells us that he was good in his representation of God. Ray

uneducated Atheist this is amusing, considering brenna is christian and a masters student. i guess she's educated stupid, right?
Since you are an uneducated Atheist, logically, this tells us that he was good in his representation of God. and because it's opposite day, logically this means he wasn't. and logically, because i said it was opposite day, and it's opposite day, it's actually not opposite day.

Arachnophilia writes: who was it on here that i was talking to that was a fan of his? I likely was not the one you refer to, but I see his passing as a great loss to the nation in that he knew and taught many a lot about our founders and Christianity in and out of government. The following link is an example of this where he clarified quite well the confusion about Thomas Jefferson, our first Secretary of State and our third president and how he was at least friendly to Christianity including his regular church attendance inside the halls of Congress etc. He also set the record straigh on George Washington, our first president and his practice of Christianity in and out of government. Page not found - WND Note: I cited this example to document my claim and to defend the integrity and honor of the deceased American patriot, Kennedy here where he has often been wrongfully maligned, imo. Kennedy, like the rest of us mortals, had faults. Nonetheless I see the passing of him as significant in that he worked to stem the tide of the decline of the American way relative to morality, freedom, education, and social issues. He worked as a conservative to conserve the good aspects of what made the nation so great. BUZSAW B 4 U 2 C Y BUZ SAW. The immeasurable present is forever consuming the eternal future and extending the infinite past.

because the ACLU is the red athiest army. oh please.
look. i don't give shit one about the personal beliefs of our founding fathers. the simple fact is that the mass bay colony was a very christian colony in which suggesting that religion was a tool to control the masses was a capital crime. if the US was a christian nation, we would have had similar laws because of the similar religious attitudes of christians in the same time period. and let me tell you what i think of an article that discusses missions to "civilize" the indians. further, a treaty, a government document produced by the executive says that the US is not and never was a christian nation. a christian nation does not support religious freedom. a christian nation with christian morals does not protect the freedom of others. d james kennedy could like america all he wants, but i'm sick and fucking tired of everyone being a "patriot". if by that you mean a missile of destruction, sure. i dislike the "god-inspired" hatred he supported with his words and the intolerance and anti-freedom policies he supported. i have maligned no one. i have said that i hope that he meets the god he so poorly represented. as far as i know, we all poorly represent god. but. i think that someone who owns nothing and spends time caring for others instead of having a fancy mega church and selling things in it is a better representative of god, as a better reflection of jesus who served others and spurned those who turned a profit in his house of worship. worship who you like, how you like and claim as right whatever you like. but don't support changes in the laws to prevent me from protecting my life and my body and my worship of my god.

This thread is drifting terminally off topic and Mr. Kennedy has been buried. Might we reflect on the legacy of religious conservatism?
Does it have value in todays secular world? Edited by AdminPhat, : reconsideration

terminally in 15 posts? really?
it seems we were discussing the contributions of kenneddy. that doesn't seem off-topic to me. and of course it has value. to individuals. but not to the government. we've seen what religious government does. we've been seeing it for 2000 years and then some. we're screaming about religious government in the middle east and trying to implement it ourselves here? what is wrong with people? religion is exclusive and isolationist. the new path of government is inclusive and diplomatically open. the two are incompatible. religion is fine in the lives of people, but it has no legitimate role in government.
