I hope I am responding in the correct administrative manner. AdminNWR suggested I respond here. Thanks AdminNWR, you must have a pretty tough job to do around here!
AdminNWR writes in message 92 of Galapagos finches:
Are the two of you willing to participate in a Great Debate. This mainly means that only two people are involved, so it should be easier for MurkeyWaters to manage that way. And, in a Great Debate thread, we can be a little more casual about topic drift.
If you both agree, I'll promote Thread Basic Fundamentals of THE Debate and Muriad Misconceptions in Forum Proposed New Topics to the Great Debate forum.
By the way RAZD, Muriad is spelled Myriad, but I’ll assume you were playing up the fact that that water is “mUrky” around here.
Yes, I think that would be great fun. I have been overwhelmed (and thankful) by the many and varied responses to my posts. Knowledgeable and interesting people abound here, but there is just so much time in a day to respond. I hadn’t realized there was such a thing as “Great Debates”, so I think that would be a “great” opportunity to provide some focus and to discover what 2 people think rather than the “community”. While I can’t predict the chances, I’d like to be idealistic and suggest there is a possibility that something could come out of it to benefit the forum as a whole.
I assume RAZD and I can duke it out (in response to this post) as to what portions (or all) of his initial post referenced above we will discuss. Point by point responses tend to grow quite rapidly as has already been demonstrated, but RAZD did a good job of narrowing it down to a couple of areas. Personally I would like to start with his First point(1) Definitions, but I wouldn’t want to miss (2) The age of the Earth or (4) Information either. We would probably cover (3) What evolution says in the discussion of (1). (5) Creationists did it first is contentious and less important, so I think we could dispatch that one pretty quickly by clearing up some misunderstandings.
Let me know what you think (do I actually have to ask?).

Welcome back.
I assume RAZD and I can duke it out ...
The format for {Great Debates} is one on one. Usually (but not always) there is a parallel {discussion of} thread for others to make comments and observations on, and may provide helpful hints. I have never particpated in one, and not sure how much time I can devote to it (as I'm sure, neither are you). It could be fun, it could be tedious (depending on how things go, repetition wise eh?).
I do think (1) Definitions, is the place to start, for without agreement there the rest is pointless.
... but I wouldn’t want to miss (2) The age of the Earth
Simply go to Age Correlations and an Old Earth: Version 1 No 3 (formerly Part III), and as long as the discussion is about the age of the earth - and the correlations of all the methods of determining dates - it shouldn't be a problem.
Then we can go over the other two issues before moving on to what ever comes up (or call it quits).
By the way RAZD, Muriad is spelled Myriad, but I’ll assume you were playing up the fact that that water is “mUrky” around here.
The intention was playful, the spelling error wasn't, thanks.

Yes. But I think I will have more time to focus on this single thread then to divide my attention to many. Then we are in agreement?
I also agree with starting on "Definitions". Do we have to wait until this thread gets promoted to a "Great Debate" to continue? Should we notify AdminNWD to do this?

I promoted RAZD's topic to a great debate. You can find it here.
Because it is a Great Debate, only you and RAZD are supposed to participate. That should keep the load down. And we will be a little more flexible on topic drift, as long as you are keeping to the broad problem.
Since you will only be debating with one person (RAZD), it should be easier for you to set a comfortable pace and not be overwhelmed. By all means, take time to think about what you want to say before you post a response.
Note: This wasn't quite where I wanted you to respond on the question of a Great Debate. But it will do.
I'll keep this thread open for a little while for you to raise any questions about your participation. Once you are settled into your debate with RAZD, I expect to close this thread.

You're up.
If you want to discuss any ground rules, feel free. Mine are pretty much in the post for now.

I expect to close this thread.
Or use it for anyone who wants to comment on the debate? (provide suggestions and questions?)
