As I kind of suspected (and alluded to) I think we've both made total boners of ourselves on this subject. Agree to disagree? For sure, and like you, I too was waiting to be corrected when we got too full of ourselves thinking we knew more than we did. But I'm hard headed and usually learn better that way. No hard feelings.
I'm no more a supporter of the reality of time travel than you are, I assure you. Can that be our common ground, at least?
But there is a cell phone! (Nice one, WK) I'm good on that, crash. Common ground found. - Oni

Negative. Spock would, especially in the first season. None of the various incarnations used a communication device held up to one's head. Mark of Gideon, around the 54-minute mark. Not full on the ear, but definitely held to the side of his head. There's a better shot a few minutes earlier (but which was cut out of the episode I had recorded) at the 2:37 mark in the clip here: No webpage found at provided URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFL8MSjzIUE. I copied out the image, but have no place to upload it to. More to come.

Thank you.
In Requium for Methuselah, Kirk also held his communicator in a slanted orientation, but still clearly in front of his face rather than to its side. Unfortunately, the local station showing Star Trek: TOS will stop doing so next week when it's shown the penultimate episode. I've got the DVR set for all channels, so hopefully somebody else out there ... .

Actually it's Agatha from Alagaesia. She was shown some runes for her hat.

It has been suggested, plausibly, that it was a hearing aid.
But it couldn't be a cell phone, because, think about it, if you traveled back to 1920 with a cell phone ... there'd be no reception. 'Cos of there being no masts. 'Cos of it being 1920. Next up, film of someone in 1887 using the internet.

I just came across this topic and had to Google.
Why does it have to be a cell phone that required cell towers? Is cell phone that required cell towers as advanced as we will ever get with wireless technology? If there is one thing that history has taught us is that predictors of limits on human ingenuity are always doomed to fail. After all, it was laughable that I would be using a computing device thinner than my folder while the most advance computers ran on vacuum tubes.

Why does it have to be a cell phone that required cell towers? Because a cellular network uses radio waves.
Is cell phone that required cell towers as advanced as we will ever get with wireless technology? I could be some other communication device, but it wouldn't be a cell phone

If it's that far advanced beyond our cellphone technology, why assume that it's a cellphone at all? Maybe it's a clone-o-matic or a pocket starship.

Why does it have to be a cell phone that required cell towers? It doesn't, it could be a magic time phone, but it can't be a cell phone. If we're going to postulate undiscovered technology, maybe she's talking to her voice-operated transmutation device. But hey, Occams's razor, amiright?

Have you read James Blish's Cities In Flight series? They can make cities fly through the galaxy with antigravity, they have a force-field that keeps the air in ... and they use slide-rules.
