Re: Defensive Gun Use Catalog
Well, I went with the top four. Would you rather I'd gone cherry-picking?

Re: Defensive Gun Use Catalog
Being the top four at any one point in time has no significance. It changes throughout the day.
I'm not sure what you're going for, so I don't have an opinion on how I'd rather you do it.

Quite. Which is what made it a random selection. Would you prefer that I picked and chose?

I don't know what you're going for, so I don't have a preference on how you do it.

Deeply, deeply scary.
But let us not forget, that as a result of the selfless sacrifices of the victims of spectacular fuckwits such as this, and that as a result of the equally selfless sacrifices of the victims of school and other massacres, gun enthusiasts can continue to say "Hey, it's a shame and all that, but I can still own a gun and protect myself in the vanishingly small likelihood that someone will at some point threaten me with deadly violence (and I'll get the drop on them; and I'll actually manage to shoot them before they shoot me; and I won't accidentally kill someone else; and I'll actually be correct about the dead guy's murderous intentions), and (in some cases, I grant you) against my ludicrous delusion that the Federal Government is just waiting for the chance to mobilise the army and come in and take over from....err....the Federal Government."

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

So. It seems you feel the death penalty is suitable punishment for:
-Burgalry
-Shoplifting
-Dangerous driving
-Carjacking
-Threatening violence
With such an effective deterrent, these crimes must almost unknown... no?

The death penalty is a punishment for someone who has been convicted of a crime. (I'm not actually for the death penalty)
But that's not the case in these example. What we have here is people defending themselves.
People have to be allowed to defend themselves even to the point of killing the person who's harming them.
With such an effective deterrent, these crimes must almost unknown... no?
Why?

Re: Reasons for Shooting :/
Gotta love "responsible" gun owners.
No, we should admonish people who are not responsible with their firearms.

Re: Reasons for Shooting :/
Tell me you didn't really mean to use the word admonish.
quote:
I'm very displeased with you son. If you continue to shoot people while cleaning your gun I'll have to take it from you.
quote:
You shouldn't have left your loaded gun where your little sister could find it. You're grounded for a week. If your little brother dies from the wound you'll be grounded for a month.

Re: Reasons for Shooting :/
If you admonish people when they start being irresponsible, then it doesn't have to come to people being unintentionally shot.
Gun safety is both easy and effective if you follow the rules. Being lax about those rules being broken is not something I've advocated.

Don't forget, there is no mountain of innocent bodies too high to clamber over, no lake of innocent blood too wide to cross, in the defence of a gun enthusiast's right to his gun.
In the context of that kind of world view, admonishment is sadly a consistent line of thought.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Well, that was awfully prejudiced.
admonishment is sadly a consistent line of thought.
You admonish the part where they start being irresponsible; like not checking to see if its loaded first, and not treating every gun as if it was loaded, and not pointing it at anything you don't want to shoot.
I wasn't talking about just admonishing the actual unintentional shooting of someone...
