Indiana Republicans made an "oopsie":
Indiana GOP's Facebook call for "Obamacare horror stories" goes wrong
The Republican party in Indiana put up a request on their Facebook page asking for horror stories about their experiences with Obamacare. Instead, they received a lot of testimonials from people who have benefited from it.
Boy, their commitment to repeal Obamacare is really turning into a mess for them.
Now that the holiday recess is over, they are supposed to bring their repeal back onto the table. It'll be interesting to see what is in store.

The real horror
The real horror story for Murica is the Republican party and it's pandering to corporate health care predators, insurance companies and big pharma's destruction of the middle class.

Health Care is really simple (redux)
From Message 521 and Message 523 in the topic "The Trump Presidency":
quote:
Thirty-two of the current Thirty-three Developed Nations have Universal Health Care systems.
Here is a list:
source
Some of these nations figured out how to do it before WWI.
It really is simple. Pick one and do what they did.
And what process should congress use to pick the plan?
The House has 435 members. There are thirty two countries on the list. Divide the House Membership up by drawing names out of a hat into thirty two teams of 13-14 members each. Assign one nation to each team and send them and their wives off on a vacation to their assigned nation.
When they return they must each prepare a Bill supporting choosing the plan from their assigned nation.
All thirty-two bills get sent to the Senate where the Senate passes one bill that then becomes the US Universal Healthcare Plan for a term of not less than ten years. At the end of every ten year period the Congress can vote to repeat the process or renew the US Healthcare Plan.
It really is that simple.

That's not going to work for the republicans profit before people policies.

Re: The real horror
Well, the insurance companies themselves were pretty much willing to work within Obamacare. You're seeing a few leaving now, but if you read the news reports most of them are pretty clear that it's the uncertainty caused by the Republicans hostility that is creating the instability in the markets.

I just heard on the radio a few facts that shocked me - really.
The USA is the richest country in the world yet it's health care is rated 39th in the world, just above Cuba and behind Saudi Arabia.
The majority cause of bankrupcy in the US is payment for health care.
Despite being much further down the world rankings for healthcare than the UK, it's provision costs a third more.

Correct on most counts. I'm not sure that your source is current on Cuba; it may rank higher than the US even though we have been sanctioning it for a half century.

And tax cuts for rich people.
Especially tax cuts for rich people.
It's possible that the Republicans will end up abandoning health care "reform" and move immediately to their true love: "tax reform", that is, txt cuts for rich people.

Americans pay more than twice what the UK does for health care:

The Yanks had such an opportunity to show the world how a modern Western democracy could work for the good of its citizens. Totally blew it. #Sad.

Half the country votes for a political party who purposefully makes the government not work for them. They actually think that a free market is the best model for a product that people can literally not live without. They simply don't understand when markets work and when they don't.

You need to list all the products; it is far more than just Health Care. They think the free market is the answer to education, prisons, utilities, infrastructure, communications, transportation ...

Precisely. California played around with a free market for electricity and people had their rates skyrocket, with Enron leading the way. They quickly changed back to a government controlled market. As far as I know, utility prices are government controlled across the US, and for good reason. Imagine electricity companies being able to charge whatever they wanted during extremes of heat and cold. The same applies to health care, and even more so. There is simply no incentive for health care providers to lower their costs because people will pay whatever they charge.

In my opinion all utilities and infrastructure should be run by the government and the Republicans are on the wrong side about that. And that is NOT socialism, it's the necessary job of government. I have to admit that deregulating the phone company allowed for free market innovations we might not otherwise have seen, but the airlines should not have been deregulated, and there should have been other solutions developed for the mentally ill than turning them out on the streets.
However, education and other social institutions should not be run by government because they are about freedom of thought and if you leave them up to government we'll be run by the idiot leftists. Oh wait....
Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

The US government is leftist? Really?
The rest of the world says 'hi'.
Hope you're doing fine, Faith.

The above ontological example models the zero premise to BB theory. It does so by applying the relative uniformity assumption that the alleged zero event eventually ontologically progressed from the compressed alleged sub-microscopic chaos to bloom/expand into all of the present observable order, more than it models the Biblical record evidence for the existence of Jehovah, the maximal Biblical god designer.
