According the the WMAP (Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe) results and with new information from the CMB (Cosmic Microwave Background) radiation from the Big Bang scientists can now say with 98% certainty that the universe is in fact flat and will continue to expand forever.
This is very interesting but it kind of worries me. Somewhere in the Bible (I think revelations maybe, I dunno) it says something about the four corners of either the Earth, or firmament (space). Also, it says that God had streched out the heavens! Both of these things can now apply to modern science and how would people that wrote the Bible know this?
I need someone who actually knows the Bible to tell me if I'm right that those things are actually said in there. Not that I'm going to convert but it's interesting nonetheless.

Words to that effect are in the Bible, all right - angels in the four corners of the earth in Revelation, and "stretching out of the heavens" in Isaiah, I think. But the Earth doesn't have corners, and the "stretching" is referring to JHWH putting up a canopy over a disk-shaped Earth with Jerusalem at its center.
No foretelling of modern cosmology there that I can see, though Bible literalists trot that stuff out pretty regularly.....
Edit to add: "flat" as applied to cosmology doesn't mean two-dimensional like a sheet of paper - and certainly doesn't mean that the universe has corners.

...Yeah I know. I forgot about that. But I'm kind of a layman to this so I wasn't sure if it had corners or not.

I'm always amused by the lengths gone to desperately make the facts fit the bible. In this case, it doesn't quite work.
As pointed out, flat just means "Euclidean". That means parallel lines that never meet, boring triangles and so on.

Mission,
Also, it says that God had streched out the heavens! Both of these things can now apply to modern science and how would people that wrote the Bible know this?
The bible got it wrong, then. "God had streched" [sic] is past tense, since it's still going on the bible should say, God is stretching the heavens".

I wasn't trying to make the facts fit the Bible. I was just wondering if they did because I don't know the Bible that well. Also, I don't know if the Bible says God had streched out the heavens, I'm sure the actual quote is different, I just thought it was something like that.
Anyways, I haven't believed in the Bible for while but I just wanted to clear this up.
