Baldur's Gate trilogy is the Star Wars of RPGs
Actually, has anybody here played Knights of the Old Republic? Didn't like the second one, but I thought the first was great. Really good story and exploring all those planets was pretty cool.

Yup.
Great game, really enjoyed it. I particularly like the mechanic where you did not die till you had a TPK.
I've played Star Wars SAGA edition and you can get the KOTOR campaign setting which is a real blast to play, too.

I haven't even had time to play Arkham Asylum yet! Bastards!
This is making me want to dig up my CDs and play it again. Damn you all, I'm already trying to balance work, a girlfriend, and 2 MMOs! I haven't even had time to play Arkham Asylum yet! Basards!
Arkham Asylum is awesome. I broke down and dipped into my emergency cash fund to buy myself an Xbox when I was 1/3 of the way into the game and my brother's went tits up. I've spent many late nights just beating up people in the challenge rooms, still cant get more than a 25 hit combo.

It's not enough to bash in heads, you've got to bash in minds

HK-47. Great Character that one, he cracked me up all the time, with his cynical "Kill everything" attitude.

That's him!
I always played with him and Canderus (spell?). I may play it again just to repair HK-47 up to see what that gets me.
So that's 3 games I want to go back and play: dare I mention Deus Ex?

Anybody have a mod for life that adds more hours into the day? 'cause now I want to play way too many games.
Also, people should play Champions Online with me.
That is all.

Hey CS,
Neverwinter Nights is good. The gameplay is essentially the same as BG in the first one. It changes the engine a little (not for the better in my opinion) in the second instalment. It's worth playing, but the real charm of the BG series for me is the fact that the NPCs are so good.
They talk to you, starting up little conversations. They chat with each other. They bicker with each other. Sometimes they even try to kill one another. I like that. That's not there in the NN games.
NN would be greatly improved with an insane gnome PC who keeps trying to drag you into long and ridiculous conversations about turnips. That's what computer gaming needs, more stories about turnips...
ToEE is awful. I gave up on it before I even hit the dungeon. It is slow, clunky and ugly. It also crashes a lot. Completely worthless.
Also I didn't want to spoil my happy memories of carving my way through the place in the original module.

(Granny Magda's Ithika)
Granny Magda runs a campaign that I've been enjoying for .... gosh, about two years now. I'm a Warpy Psionicist My mutation is a metal skull cap that protects my otherwise exposed brain, although I can gain 20% psp's by removing the cap - leaving me open to potential injury and possible cerebral-consumption if that Hannibal Lecter guy comes around and decides he feels a bit peckish.
Some recent fun incidents...
> A guard "assassinated" by being shoved off a rampart into a raging cloudkill below. Oops!
> The death of a party member as a result of party negligence... Granny could have corralled us into taking a different course of action than the one we chose (in order to save this party member), but opted not to. This left me with a real sense of free will in the campaign, albeit that poor Sarwan had to pay for this sense of freedom with his life hehehe)
> A party member was forced to jump into the town fountain because they teleported to town whilst they had a breathe water spell active on them (thus making them unable to breathe air).
My favourite thing about Granny's mastering style is his ability to address situations on the fly and come up with reasonable, logical resolutions, most times after listening to and taking into consideration the suggestions of his players (I say "most" because it's not a democracy is it... the players don't get a say in some things).
The coolest thing in this campaign (and kudos to Granny for this) is the high level of detail built into it. Granny (over the years) has developed enough original source material for this campaign to give it a fully fleshed-out, lived-in feel.
Now if he'd just spend less time on these forums and more time doing game prep... but alas, there are wayward intellects here that need that gentle nudge (or in some cases a full-on tackle) to get back to reality.
I'm experiencing an intellectual revival as of late Granny, so I'll be joining you here in this noble endeavour.
Seeya soon! (signed Aleph)

Hey CS,
Hi GM...(hrm, coincidence?)
Neverwinter Nights is good. The gameplay is essentially the same as BG in the first one. It changes the engine a little (not for the better in my opinion) in the second instalment. It's worth playing, but the real charm of the BG series for me is the fact that the NPCs are so good.

Yeah, okay. I get it. I went to look at the local stores for a copy but nobody had it. I'll prolly have to order it online.
I gotta lot of shit going on so I don't know how soon I can start playing it though.
ToEE is awful. I gave up on it before I even hit the dungeon. It is slow, clunky and ugly. It also crashes a lot. Completely worthless.
I bought ToEE on a whim. Tried to play it, had all the problems you had, and then shelved it.
I was talking about how shitty it was to a friend one time and they asked: "Did you try to patch it?"
This was the first time I had ever heard about patching a game.
Atari had three whole different patches for ToEE which actually worked. The game ran fine and it turned out to be pretty decent.
Also I didn't want to spoil my happy memories of carving my way through the place in the original module.
Yeah, I think I'm a little younger than you.

Hi Larni,
Never new you were a guy.
Yeah, well, sorry if that weirds anyone out.
Granny Magda was my all-time favourite PC. She was a 13th level enchantress, witch and general lunatic. We stopped playing that campaign long before I got tired of her, so I've kept using the name, here and elsewhere. I hope it's not an issue.
Seriously though, here we are in the midst of a very nerdy conversation about RPGs and MMORGs; was there ever much chance that I was a woman?

Lol, why do you think I'm called Larni?
One of my first Vampire: The Masquerade characters and she was a hot red head Malkavian; so she was bat shit mad, too.
