Clearly I think we need to get an idea of their current involvement in science and if the titles given by the DI are correct.
(This is the other reason that the excel would be handy - we can colour-code the sciences and also generate graphs and the like). This message has been edited by Charles Knight, 27-Aug-2005 08:24 PM

there were supposed to be asterisk on the ones known to be dead by DI
Charles? do you still have that or did you clean those off the list? I have some ideas on questions too. I like the idea of a science project. One of the questions would have to be endorsing the same statement (we don't need to say that we know they are on the list) to see what the current response is. One would also have to be a blatant endorsement of ID and one a complete rejection of ID. we are limited in our ability to understand by our ability to understand RebelAAmerican.Zen[Deist

you can also parse the names and sort by last names, by institutions, etc.

through late Wednesday evening not around here sorry wont be here Here you make sense of it, that's the best way to go Sorry to be a pain in the ass but I won't be around this Forum I am going to be out all day and throughout until late Wednesday evening Can you "do something" with this. Proposed New Topics I don't have time to think through or ever begin to rewrite this. I ask you to bring the it up (only because of two reasons) that I would ever expect you to even consider this. I ask only because I will simply let the topic alone You have an interests in "fundementals" and you can naturally shape-up my rambling remarks at such an issue as Early and Modern Man See: Look and take a close gaze at the time:*arachnophilia, Charles Knight, DBlevins, DrJones*, Faith

Well I looked last night and I couldn't actually see any in the actual text (and they should have lifted with the rest of text anyway) - I take a more detailed look later - after I get back from breakfast.

there were supposed to be asterisk on the ones known to be dead by DI honestly, the way this is going so far, i'd rather independently confirm their deaths. i mean, so far we have homeschool-moms and excercise specialists being listed as scientists, just because they have a ph.d. in something.
One of the questions would have to be endorsing the same statement (we don't need to say that we know they are on the list) to see what the current response is. well, this is a tough question. because we also need to make sure we've found the right people. if they're not the right people, we'd have to discard the results.
One would also have to be a blatant endorsement of ID and one a complete rejection of ID. well, i'm thinking that we'll try to cover all of the bases: god, religion, evolution, creationism, id, school, etc. so basically there will be the option of selecting things like theistic evolution (what davidson seemed to be for) as well as a complete rejection of either side. but we'll hash this out a little later...

I'm really dubious about this whole thread.
I don't like the idea of targetting people who sign a petition we disagree with. I'm concerned that this will appear as a kind of witchhunt. I'm not saying it is a witchhunt; but I think it will be easy to make it appear that way. It may come across as a confirmation that this is about peer pressure and intolerance of dissent. The strength of the conventional model is that it is NOT based on stiffling dissent, but on following the data and evidence. It is certainly true that scientists are going to have to get smart about explaining their material and their position. The Steve list, for example, was great. Trying to root out dissent in the petition is probably a bad idea, that will not win over many of the folks we need to be reaching. Just a thought -- Sylas
