Faith writes: "My" doctrine used to be the foundation of this nation, it was the reason for our great success and prosperity and benevolence toward the rest of the world. It was in fact the inspiration for the liberties you now claim and impute to other sources while imputing their loss to me and my doctrines. You might be surprised to hear that I somewhat agree with you. Protestantism, and especially the Puritans, helped establish the moral and spiritual state and destiny of an individual as of near cosmic significance in western political culture. That notion of the irreducible worth and sovereignty of the individual informed what is best in the founding of our nation. But it's still not a theocracy. Even if every founder had been a devout Christian, the documents they produced would not have created a theocracy. Our overt political culture is based on near absolute guarantees of individual rights; our covert culture comprises what really happens. Christianity held covert political power in a near-overt way for a long time, but now we are both more diverse and changed by modernity. So, okay, thanks for your religion's contribution to our free secular republic. Evangelize people all you like. Don't mess with the Constitution to reestablish Christian cultural hegemony, and we're good. But nobody gets those particular reins again. I've never said it was a theocracy or even thought it.
But thank you for being fair, and above all, nice about it.

Here.
"I mean, this idiot says the same thing about my speeches," Paul told WaPo. "Do I need to say in my speech, as many people attribute to Thomas Jefferson, but some people dispute, before I give the quote? It’s idiocy, it’s pedantry — it’s ridiculous stuff from partisan hacks. Yes, Rand Paul, you stupid cockwomble, if you're going to go around saying that Thomas Jefferson said something, it is actually desirable to find out if he said it. And then there's the classic conservative bullshit, this "some people say this, and some people say that" dodge. Mr. Paul, you appalling asshat, just because there are two opposing views on a subject doesn't mean that reality is optional. It means that one of them is wrong. In this case, it's the people who aren't the Thomas Jefferson Foundation.

I watched an interview with Jeb Bush on CNN last night.
Basically, what I got from it was that Jeb is a 'grinder'. When asked what he means with that he answered that he eats nails before breakfast. Huh? What on earth does that mean? What I also got from that interview was that he loves his daddy and that his daddy loves him. And, oh, he never criticised his brother. And he got elected to be Republican Governor in the biggest swing state in the US, without criticising his brother. And he doesn't criticise Rubio at all when saying that Rubio doesn't do his job. Apparently, according to Bush, it's not criticism. If ever this guy gets elected as US President; God helps America. And the rest of the world, too.

Apparently it's a site for people who've worked out so much they're too big for their shirts, and are now desperately in search of a good tailor. It's bit of a niche market.

When asked what he means with that he answered that he eats nails before breakfast. Huh?
At work I overheard a hallway conversation about breakfast cereals that are fortified with iron. He related what he had seen on a "Myth Busters" type of TV show. They reduced the fortified cereal down and took a magnet to it. The bottom line was that that added iron was in the form of iron filings. So then, yeah, I guess that a lot of people do eat nails for breakfast.

It means that he has to tell you what a tough guy he is because otherwise you wouldn't notice. James Bond eats scrambled eggs for breakfast.

It's bit of a niche market. A bear market, presumably ?Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

I have some anatomy that is nearly too big for my shirts, but it is below my ribcage. And I didn't have to work out to grow it.

A bear market, presumably ? It's bit of a niche market. But with more than a little bull. Grind is on the move in our linguascape. Recently, high school dances were canceled due to "excessive grinding" at previous events; a blogger on Salon/Slate/Huffpost worried that an excessive focus while pleasuring her partner with 'the pepper grinder' technique was counterproductive; and now Bush is a grinder. I don't know what it all means, but one of those things doesn't belong there."If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, you can collect a lot of heads." If you thought his comments about evolution were the stupidest thing any human being could possibly say ... nope.

If you were running a McDonald's, you'd have doubts about employing someone who exhibited that level of stupid.
Yet when it comes to our elected officials (on both sides of the Atlantic), we collectively seem willing to ignore - even reverse - our usual impulse to employ someone to work for us who has at least a modicum of intelligence. Only ourselves to blame, at the end of the day :-/Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Ben Carson is not the originator of the believe that the pyramids were for storing grain. I suspect that a few people are actually encouraged to vote for Ben Carson because of his stated belief.
10 Bizarre Theories About The Pyramids That DON'T Involve Aliens
