Re: Maps,Territories,and personal decisions
Jesus was born a Jew, raised as a Jew, preached to Jews, lived as a Jew, tried to reform Judaism and died as a Jew.
If Jesus preached to Jews, why do you take matthew 25 as being for everyone? The fact is that Jesus preaches to everyone.

Re: Maps,Territories,and personal decisions
Phat, why don't your responses ever relate to what you are replying.
Who Jesus was, how Jesus lived and who Jesus preached to has nothing to do with what Jesus preached. How many times have I pointed you toward Luke 4?
Luke 4 writes:
25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;
26 But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.
27 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.
28 And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,
Jesus pissed the Jews off by pointing out that they are NOT the Chosen people. If Jesus were here today I imagine he would piss off most Christians by pointing out that they too are not the Chosen people.

Actually I agree with this assessment.
Sometimes i think I need to pray (and read the Bible) more, and argue online less.

Perhaps.
Tell me though---do you have no problem with simply dying and ceasing to exist?
If the answer is no do you feel that you will continue to live vicariously through your offspring? Is that not a different way of defining eternal life---living through the next generation?

Well I'd really rather not have it happen, but as dying is still a necessary part of living, I'll have to put up with it. It bothers me more that I wasn't born in 500 years time when dying will probably be optional.
If the answer is no do you feel that you will continue to live vicariously through your offspring?
No, of course not. I'm me, they're them. I'll be dead, dead.
Is that not a different way of defining eternal life---living through the next generation?
No, see above.
All this worrying about the continuance of life after death is why it was necessary to invent gods that could do it. Once you accept that we're just another form of life that is totally disposable, life gets easy. You're not important in the scheme of things - you are only important to the people who's lives you touch.

in which case i would ask them to go fishing with me. Being alone is no fun.
Tell me this, though. If we are only important to those whose lives we touch, is that itself not spirituality?

That's ok too, but a lot of the pleasure of fishing is solitude and countryside.
Tell me this, though. If we are only important to those whose lives we touch, is that itself not spirituality?
I'd say that it's just being human. We're important to the people we love and love us; that's just life. It's overthinking simple things that's getting you into these difficulties.

Jesus was talking TO Jews but He was talking ABOUT everybody. What part of "all nations" is confusing?

After re-reading this whole thread, I see that we already went over that.

Tangle was amusing, however! According to you guys, the Bronze Age myths and yet you create a new secular religion! Death is optional? C'mon...it will never happen.

Well ... actually, it certainly will be if we don't kill off our species first.
But, Tangle is being a pessimist with his 500 year quip. It will happen in the next 50 years for the elite and by 2150 for the rest of the population. Which is even more of a real pisser having come so close.

live long and accumulate
And happened long ago for some species like planarian worms, bristle cone pines, some aspen and some jellyfish plus clonal critters like Hydras and even lobsters. Even immortals though can be killed, they just don't die of old age.

Re: live long and accumulate
Even immortals though can be killed, they just don't die of old age.
That will be true initially but given the modular nature of our cybernetic pieces parts all but the most devastating of accidents will be recoverable.
Soon after that, however, even being stomped flat by an evil Megatron will only kill the present iteration of one of the clones in your collective conscious personal being.
And further after that your entire existence will be within the matrix where you can play the tragic hero of every story ever simultaneously while living multiple lives of luxury and sensual fantasy as various species with thousands of collectively joined others all clearly vividly experienced by your own personal collective consciousness.
Or, we can all be well on our way to being extinct by the end of this century.

Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.
