Actually, worn copies are kept as long as possible after being digitised. Photo's of the pages and digitised pages, etc, are put on the Net.I don't think that any proper library in the world would throw the books away before they've been copied and saved somewhere on a few servers and can be accessible on the Net from various sources and saved on a lot of various independent safe places. My local library has used book sales - 50 cents for paperback, $1 for hardcover, $5 for a bagfull.

Yes, I've been having that feeling for a while, now.

Yes, my local library does that. Many of those books are donated by residents, to be used in the book sale. It's part of how we support the local library.

Of course there is more than one kind of library in the world...

What would be truly unfortunate is if someone could be in an environment of constant learning, such as this place used to be, and not have changed at all.

I see this thread will go nowhere.This forum full of closed-minded farts has decided that they only support freedoms when they agree with the content of those freedoms.I am quite disgusted, really.I had been fooled into thinking this was a forum of liberal minded people. It is not. As the 'liberals' mentioned in the OP, many here have become the very monsters liberalism is supposed to fight.I can only hope someday the world realizes there is no room for hate from either said of the aisle.All symbols have to parts. Not only is he overreacting, he's detracting from the topic of this thread: that moving statues from one place to another is just the same as being Hitler and ISIS put together.

Not at all. People should be free to move their statues with or without my approval. Also their furniture. Liberalism was never supposed to fight against the rights of a democracy to choose its own decor.
