Actually, worn copies are kept as long as possible after being digitised. Photo's of the pages and digitised pages, etc, are put on the Net.
I don't think that any proper library in the world would throw the books away before they've been copied and saved somewhere on a few servers and can be accessible on the Net from various sources and saved on a lot of various independent safe places. We're way past the 1930's Fascist Germany; where even all the German copies of Origins they could find were burned.

I think I have a new hero.
Thank you for what you do to make this world a little better.

Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts
"God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness.

Re: Reasons Matter
this forum is a great place to hash it out. I respect your post and your character in general, anglagard. You have always impressed me with your honesty and in this post you impressed me with your bluntness. Free speech lives! Long may it reign! As long as there are forums such as EvC...where we can be unafraid to argue and present our ideas and beliefs to one another...America is hardly in any danger of becoming fascist.
anglagard writes:
I have defended you in the past despite your fuzzy thinking. I feel I have a deeper understanding of who you used to be because of our many chat sessions back when that was more active. I know you used to be better than your recent posts. This is the last time I cut you slack.
Now, I don't recognize the old Jon.
I do. He just got knocked out of the ring, but I see him stirring a bit. Climb back in, Lad and be honest with us.
I know you better than anybody else at EvC and I know you get bored and like to argue certain things.. but I really think you need to climb back in the ring and give anglagard an honest and thoughtful response. The peanut gallery awaits...

My local library has used book sales - 50 cents for paperback, $1 for hardcover, $5 for a bagfull.

Yes, my local library does that. Many of those books are donated by residents, to be used in the book sale. It's part of how we support the local library.

Yes, I've been having that feeling for a while, now.
What would be truly unfortunate is if someone could be in an environment of constant learning, such as this place used to be, and not have changed at all.

I see no reason for that. His response to me was entirely uncalled for.

Adieu
I see this thread will go nowhere.
This forum full of closed-minded farts has decided that they only support freedoms when they agree with the content of those freedoms.
I am quite disgusted, really.
I had been fooled into thinking this was a forum of liberal minded people. It is not. As the 'liberals' mentioned in the OP, many here have become the very monsters liberalism is supposed to fight.
I can only hope someday the world realizes there is no room for hate from either said of the aisle.
All symbols have to parts. If we cannot separate them, then evil will always prevail.

Overreact much?
Not only is he overreacting, he's detracting from the topic of this thread: that moving statues from one place to another is just the same as being Hitler and ISIS put together.

Not at all. People should be free to move their statues with or without my approval. Also their furniture.
As the 'liberals' mentioned in the OP, many here have become the very monsters liberalism is supposed to fight.
Liberalism was never supposed to fight against the rights of a democracy to choose its own decor.
