If only there were someone who believed in an old Earth who was willing to discuss the Bible rationally and scientifically.
If only....
We do, however, know that it isn't you.
I'm sure it's such a person came along you would No Doubt be deliriously happy to finally talk to someone who is rational and scientific.
Yes, IF that happens.
This:Theia and the flood is not a case of that.
And Admin perfectly summarized your post there:
quote:
The story isn't familiar to me, it's completely unevidenced, it obviously has no scientific basis and appears to violate known physical laws, it also doesn't appear based upon anything in the Bible despite the Bible references, and it's pretty crazy.

I have yet to hear what physical laws it violates.

Why BELIEVE that it will rain today when you can KNOW that it might rain today. Belief is unnecessary and illogical.
A moral person is a person that understands that the universe does not revolve around their ego.
A civilized society is a society whose laws do not revolve around any one person or group of people.
The more a society treats everyone as equals the more civilized it is.

Yawn.
Pink Unicorns and Trolls under the Bridge don't violate any physical laws either.
Like your fantasies, they are all just fiction. Trolls and Unicorns are interesting fiction though.

If only there were someone who believed in an old Earth who was willing to discuss the Bible rationally and scientifically.
Problem we have is those bible believers so often refuse to accept evidence that shows their beliefs are wrong.
Biblical flood is a prime example. Scientific evidence shows conclusively that there was no such flood during historic times, but bible believers can't accept that. They come up with all sorts of excuses why evidence of the flood can't be found, including placing it 250 million years in the past. They can't then explain where all the humans were 250 million years ago, so round and round we go...

Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge.
Belief gets in the way of learning--Robert A. Heinlein
In the name of diversity, college student demands to be kept in ignorance of the culture that made diversity a value--StultisTheFool
It's not what we don't know that hurts, it's what we know that ain't so--Will Rogers
If I am entitled to something, someone else is obliged to pay--Jerry Pournelle
If a religion's teachings are true, then it should have nothing to fear from science...--dwise1
"Multiculturalism" demands that the US be tolerant of everything except its own past, culture, traditions, and identity.
Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other points of view--William F. Buckley Jr.

you shouldn't call them Bible believers without qualifying that they don't believe
Coyote writes:

They really can't be called Bible believers since they really, obviously and honestly don't believe the Bible and constantly refuse to accept what the Bible actually says.
They refuse to believe the fact that the Bible has two mutually exclusive and contradictory creation stories that are both factually wrong or that the Bible has two mutually exclusive and contradictory flood stories that are both factually wrong or that the Bible has two mutually exclusive and contradictory geologies for Jesus or that the God character in Genesis 1 is entirely different than the God character in Genesis 2&3 and on and on and on.
They are not Bible believers and it is only their utter dishonesty that allows them to call themselves Biblical Christian or Bible believers.

I have yet to hear what physical laws it violates.
I can live with that.
There's still rest:
"it's completely unevidenced, it obviously has no scientific basis and appears to violate known physical laws, it also doesn't appear based upon anything in the Bible despite the Bible references, and it's pretty crazy"
Not only is it a stupid idea, you've already proven yourself to be a liar to me.
And I'm not going to argue your failed OP in another thread where it's off topic.
So good day, sir.

Gee whiz, you poor atheists have to argue with unscientific creationists.
You misconceive. We're not here to argue with creationists or other know-it-alls. We're here to make sure that creationist and other know-it-all ideas don't go unchallenged. We don't expect creationists themselves to understand that creationism is nonsense and we don't expect know-it-alls to understand that they don't know it all.

Hi RAZD,
RAZD writes:
I think 'brane theory is much more likely to pan out, and I expect it to grow. See Did a 5-D black hole brane event horizon make the universe?.
You think!!! Why don't you know?
Is it because you have zero evidence that branes exist?
Or is it because you have no answer for how a black hole that exists inside the universe could create the universe? Remember I have been told many times that there is no outside of the universe.
I think the God theory is correct. I can think also.
Unlike the BBT or the brane theory it gives a source for the material used to create the universe and everything in it.
All you have is what you believe yet you and others tell me you do not have faith.
So you see your BBT or brane theory is based on assumptions which came from the mind of mankind, is just as foolish to me as my belief that God supplied the material and created the heavens and the earth, is to the atheist.
Don't get too upset with me I know you say you are a Deist not an atheist. But most of your argumentation is more atheistic.
God Bless,

How is your church doing, anyway? Are you still the Pastor? What are your views on the current state of the world?

The Future Of EvC
well, Boss...since you are the much-appreciated one who maintains the server, upgrades the software and writes the programs I wanted to ask you what you see the future of EvC in 2018 being? We all know that the forum is no longer growing, but do you specifically track such data anymore?
I had some ideas that I would do were it my forum and wanted to list them here for feedback...both from you and for other members.
  • Improve the quality of our topics. I am paying better attention to how I respond. The overall goal is to have a neat and tidy archive...as much as possible.
  • Clean up the archive. Eliminate threads that went nowhere, never got off the ground, or were spam. Is that a priority for you or do you generally feel that the unwieldiness of the archive best be left as is?
We have some great posts and some valuable topics and threads here in our archives. We also have a ton of junk. One issue would be judging the trash from the stash. Its not easy to do. Comments?
Edited by Phat, : replying as phat rather than Adminphat though we both look alike!

I still login to see what is happening.
Now that the satanic cult known as "Evangelical Christianity" has managed to elect Satan as president, the happenings at evcforum seem less important.

    Huh, I didn't know that.
But, as you say, Percy's the one with such data. Whatever that data says must be true.
Improve the quality of our topics. I am paying better attention to how I respond. The overall goal is to have a neat and tidy archive...as much as possible.
I think this is a great point, and we should all try to take under advisement.
    Clean up the archive.
    Great idea!
Eliminate threads that went nowhere, never got off the ground, or were spam.
    Wait, what?
The spam I agree with. And I think Adminnemooseus does a fairly good job at this already?
But anything else... I'd rather deal with what someone considers a "dirty archive" rather than that same someone deciding exactly when/where/how things "went nowhere" or "never got off the ground."
Only topics with 5 replies or less? What if one of those 5 replies is really good? Who gets to decide if something is "really good" for everyone?
No replies? What if the topic itself is worth stating, but not worth replying to? Who gets to decide if something is "worth stating" for everyone?
Simply in the line of "open discussion" think nothing should ever get deleted.
But, if you have some idea on how to organize existing things, without deleting them... I don't see an issue with that.
One issue would be judging the trash from the stash. Its not easy to do.
    No, not easy at all
The most honest approach (in my experience) is to keep everything and let everyone else decide what is trash or not for themselves.
Of course, if you have an idea on how to organize it, then that sounds like it has potential.

Percy has been too busy to respond, but I'd imagine that he agrees with you in that keeping everything is the best approach. Perhaps its just a pet peeve of mine...but the storage space is adequate to keep it all...
If one is browsing an old archive, the less clutter there is the easier it is to find the good stuff...but I throw out old bills over 6 months old while some people save that stuff forever...and I'm a packrat in my own affairs in other ways....
