It is a typical NRA ploy to insist that a armed group of people will deter or fend off a attacker. This is just patently stupid.
As far as why you should be able to buy a AR-15 I am with you on that. You should not be able to buy a Claymore antipersonnel mine or a AR-15 for the same reasons imo. You should not be able to buy a Claymore antipersonnel mine or a AR-15 for the same reasons imo. Our laws are never going to change until we change the perception in this country of needing to be armed in order to overthrow the government. That is the core philosophical argument used by right wing nut job militias. Their military level weapons are required 'just in case' they have to band together in case the government becomes corrupt. This concept is so fucking asinine that it reaches a level of absurdity that I can scarcely comprehend at this stage. We saw this behavior with Cliven Bundy and his band of inbred hillbilly jackoffs that were arming themselves and preparing for the 'evil government' coming to usurp their land. And it wasn't even their land! Personally, if I was president, I would have been a total dick at that stage. I would have sent a couple of Apache gunships and a few M1A2 Abrahams tanks to that location. Not as a means to escalate violence, but as a reality check for these nimrods. Take a look at the fire-power that the US military has at it's disposal. What are you possibly going to do against that even with your friggen AR-15? You could shoot at that parked tank all day and the soldiers inside would be pissing themselves laughing at your stupidity as the bullets bounce off. You might was well arm yourselves with Nerf guns for all the good it will do you.

The Pulse Massacre in Orlando stands on it's own as a grave tragedy for this country, but the hyperbole as the "worst mass shooting in U.S. history" is insulting. Several of these listed events are officially referred to as battles. If we want to pursue that kind of list, then surely a number of civil war battles fought in the US would dwarf these counts. Perhaps all of the Indian examples as well as the Fort Pillow incident are omitted on this basis or on the basis of being government sanctioned and 'rightful' law and order killings. Medals of honor were actually handed out to government troops in the Wounded Knee massacres. No idea why the others are not counted. Absolutely no cover for any of those things not to be counted as gun violence. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Thoreau: Civil Disobedience (1846) History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people. Martin Luther King If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions? Scott Adams

"It would be horribly tragic if my ability to protect myself or my family were to be taken away", wrote responsible gun owner Christy Sheats on her Facebook page this March.
Guess what she just murdered her daughters with?

No crime here. Police reports later indicated that the guns were properly registered just the way all responsible, law abiding gun owners do.

From the beginning of the year until June 27th, there have been 113 homicides in Orange Country Florida, 49 from the Pulse nightclub shooting. Of these 113, 100 were shooting deaths. Obviously we have a gun problem in this country!

Obviously we have a gun problem in this country! We have a people problem. I live out in the hills not far from a medium-sized California city. The murder rate out in these hills and surrounding hills is zero, even though virtually every house is well armed. The nearby medium-sized city with a large hispanic population and major gang and drug problems has a large number of shooting deaths, one of the worse in the state. There is no such thing as dangerous weapons, only dangerous people. And yet it turns out that the dangerous people are more dangerous when they have guns than when they point their fingers at people and shout BANG.

Coyote writes: There is no such thing as dangerous weapons, only dangerous people. I've got to call bs on that as all weapons are dangerous by nature of being weapons. But since we can't easily tell who the "dangerous people" are, perhaps we shouldn't let just anyone with a pulse have a gun, especially ones with magazines that can hold 30 or more bullets?
