Re: Don't Say Gay Bill - article showing left bias
Unless you are a resident of Tennessee, why be a opponent or a proponent of this legislation? It doesn't effect other people in other states, wtf?
I'm an American. Any law in any state which attempts to suppress other Americans is something I care about. I'm worried that you don't feel the same.
I agree with all of that. So what is the problem?
The law would make it illegal. That's the problem.

Re: Don't Say Gay Bill - article showing left bias
My point is that if one sex pref is to be taught, then all should, if one isn't than none should. The other point is what you brought up that just general points be brought up in grade school whereas, I feel that all sexual prefs and the problems with each should be taught in Jr High.
But you must agree that there is A LOT more information to go over when discussing sexual reproduction than there is in discussing homosexual sex.
It's not so much a matter of "teaching a preference" as it is "this is where babies come from".
Obviously kids (even gay kids) need to know this information.
My objection is that asking teachers to pretend as though several of the kids in their classroom aren't gay isn't going to do those kids or the straight kids any favors.

character assassination is all the left has when confronted by evidence in a logical fashion, you should know this by now
Interesting hypothesis. Now all you need to do is start confronting us with evidence to test it.
We've been WAITING and WAITING.

Except that by telling other Americans in other states what they can and cannot do, and what Legislation they can and cannot create, you are doing exactly that in which you claim to be against.

No it wouldn’t.

I know you didn't cover American history while you weren't studying Greek History, so I'll try and walk you through this.
The GOVERNMENT is not the PEOPLE.
You can not oppress the GOVERNMENT by telling it that it can not enact or enforce laws which oppress the PEOPLE.
I know you're a big fan of big government, but that's not how this country works.
If you want a theocracy or a dictatorship, I can provide you with any number of countries where you can find it.
Here, though, the Constitution rules, and we enact no laws specifically designed to oppress a group of people just because "Jesus hates Fags", no matter how desperately you want that to be allowed.

Wow, what a well reasoned argument.
The law SPECIFICALLY prohibits the mention of homosexuality.
In what way WOULDN'T it make covering homosexuality in sex-ed illegal?
Are you even paying attention?
Seriously, you've been bitching and moaning for days about how we aren't being "fair" with you, and here you are demonstrating that you don't even know what the discussion is about.

My point is that sex ed should be comprehensive covering Sexual reproduction, contraception, sexual prefs, AIDS & STDS, sexual assaults and the good & bad points of premarital sex.

I agree, however, there are basically three times in which sex ed is handled in school.
What you are talking about is most appropriate for the Jr High/High School level of sex ed.
I think think this sort of material needs to get covered in the separate the 5th grade boys and the girls and have them watch the old 8mm "My body is changing" film.

Re: Don't Say Gay Bill - article showing left bias
Considering that I have never seen the old 8mm "My body is changing" film, I cannot say whether it is good or not. When I was in the 5th grade, 1958-1959, there was no sex ed at all, nor in Jr High.
I started puberty in 1958, not knowing what was going on. The first inference of any sexual study came in 1961, when my parents gave me the book "What Every Young Man Should Know," which did nothing in that I had essentially taught it to myself in books from the Public Library between 1958 & 1961.

That is mere conjecture. For all you know, if "confronted with evidence in a logical fashion" we'd turn green and explode. Who can say?

Rachel Maddow: The Fresh Air Interview
Rachel Maddow has a new book out (which will be mentioned in the following).
The main NPR page:
Rachel Maddow: The Fresh Air Interview : NPR
The first 2 paragraphs:
quote:
For much of the past decade, journalist Rachel Maddow has hosted her own radio and TV shows. And for much of that time, the popular MSNBC host has been thinking about how the United States uses military force and how it starts and end wars.
Maddow's new book Drift: The Unmooring of American Military Power traces how U.S. national intelligence agencies have taken over duties that were once assigned to the military, and how this shift has increased the public disconnect from the consequences of war.
The interview transcript:
Rachel Maddow: The Fresh Air Interview : NPR
Link to interview mp3 download (20.4MB):
http://pd.npr.org/...r-mp3/npr/fa/2012/03/20120327_fa_01.mp3
The interview links are also available via the main NPR page link. There are also some interview highlights at the bottom of that page.
In all, something for you Rachel Maddow fans to read/listen to. I caught the tail end of the interview when it was broadcast.

Re: Rachel Maddow: The Fresh Air Interview
She was on The Daily Show last night to support the book as well. Jon seemed to think it was a great read, saying it didn't have any apparent poltical bias, it argues that both sides of the aisle have contributed to the problem, then gives a few solutions at the end.

The unedited version of the interview (with more discussion of the book content) is supposed to be available, but I can't track it down. Maybe someone else can find it.
