The Political Compass
This site allows one to privately answer a series of questions and then displays the position of your answers on a 2-D grid.
This thread is to discuss how one feels about each of the questions and the over all result.
How meaninful, relevant, biased, hard to answer or whatever you think about a question is appropriate. You may also offer opinions on the meaning of any specific answer.

Bias?
Buz, in a nother thread posted the following:
In answer to a question of bias:

1. Several questions on page one seemed to implicate the Bush Admin foreign affairs in the Middleast.
2. Question one assumes and insinuates that trans-national private enterprise corporations do not serve humanity.
3. In ques 2 no matter how I answer, it portrays me as supporting either all or none of my country's policies.
4. 3 has nobody choosing country of birth and insinuates national pride to be foolish.
5. 4 casts a bad racist shadow on any who would recognize superior qualities of their respective races. For example, for blacks to recognize the known and statistical fact that their athletic abilities in such sports as boxing are superior to most other races, due to their natural physiology. The same would apply to American Indians who seem to excell all others as steeplejacks, Arabs and American Indians as rug weavers and so forth.
6. 5's problem is that the question is too relative a question for a yes or no answer.
and then in answer to: Could you explain how you judged this, and why you felt one page was as good as the rest when each page had different topics and what appeared to be styles of question?

The survey would not let you view past page one without filling out page one.
My comments follow:
1) I see no mention of the current administration or any specific war. You are allowed to strongly disagree with anyone of the statments. How is that biased?
2) That is a good point about the question. It isn't necessarily an either or. However, if there is any conflict between the two the question is asking you which you would pick I think. And you aren't saying there isn't ever any conflict are you??
3) That is the point of question 2. Do you or do you not ever disagree with any of your countries policies. If you never, ever do then you answer on one extreme. If you are always prepared to on a case by case basis you answer the other extreme. I don't see a "bias" for one answer here.
4) question 3 allows you to strongly disagree with the statment. It doesn't tell you what to pick.
5) I agree it could be worded better. It doesn't say, however, what you think. It, to me, says that agreeing with it is saying that the answerer's race has more superior characteristics not just different tones.
6) You are right but it does allow for some gradiation of answer. These kinds of things don't have to have every question right on just enough to get an approximate view.
and then, why not click a bunch of answers to see what is on the next page. It doesn't matter a darn.
It is an amusing game and might give on some insite into your own views and those of others. It is not big deal.

off topic
This is a good idea, but this is being discussed in Moose's topic.
(Yes it's extremely off-topic.)
That's why I copied something here.

You beat me too it.
Good saves me some work. It looks like I'm the fascist here so far.
The colour don't work and I don't think we should plot the people so much as the groups.
