The "Posts of the Month" forum index page.
These topics listed at the above page are still available for additions.
-----
Now for October 2004 (as per previous months):
quote:
Please post your votes for the October, 2004, Post of the Month here. Include author, forum name, thread name, post number, eg:
Name: Velvet Tongue
Forum: Evolution
Thread: I'm no monkey
Post #: 17
A link to the message, and perhap a SHORT comment would also be nice. But, this is NOT a place to debate the referenced topic - so be nice.
I think that a fairly liberal use of this topic would be a good thing for indexing some nice messages that are otherwise doomed to be lost in the clutter. So, if you encounter a message that seems to say something of special substance, please give it a plug/reference in this topic.
New month, same old message and routine,

The sanctions on the people of Iraq
Name: Primordial Egg
Forum: Coffee House
Thread: Is there a link between Iraq and Al Qaeda?
Post #: 41

One of the things which I don't think gets the coverage it deserves is the effect that sanctions had on the people of Iraq. Several high ranking members of the UN, including the then Assistant Secretary General, Denis Halliday, resigned in protest accusing the US and Britain of a deliberate policy of genocide. Madeleine Albright, when questioned about the Unicef report which had 500,000 children dying in Iraq as a direct result of sanctions remarked that "the price was worth it".
And more.
I repeat:

One of the things which I don't think gets the coverage it deserves is the effect that sanctions had on the people of Iraq.

Post : #28
Good post this. Philosophical, and makes some great points concerning limited humans, and their sometimes self-righteous personalities, or self-importance problems.
Phatboy writes:
In fact, if we took a worldwide vote as to the best characteristics of God, could we say that the God that people want is the God who Is, or who should be? Does human nature want a God? Or do we seek to be co-creators and co-definers of reality with this god concept in our own minds?..... As a Christian, I am not for everyone just describing their idea of God as a free for all relative construct, however. We are limited in our ability or motivation to conceive of God how He is vs how WE want Him to be

Will post a brief reply there. As should anyone else who wishes to reply.

I've been trying to explain this concept to various members throughout the forum but haven't been able to state it clear enough to get my message across. Primordial Egg did a very very nice job at explaining something that took me a while to do.

Thank you very much, Minnemooseus, for complimenting me with this nomination, especially so early in my posting career here.

You have to remember that the gulf between different sects of believers is wider than the gulf between believer and non.
Super insight, Asgara. If only evos, agnostics and athiests would understand this profound truth when painting the different sects of Christianity with the same brush as so many of them are so prone to do.

Gosh, Mike...my first nomination, ever! I have noticed that my posts are getting a bit better, but there are many more deserving than I in this forum. Its a bit odd, but I like jars post in the Coffee House.
Name: Jar
Forum:Coffee House
Thread: Your Favorite Tipple
Post:#16 I liked the imagery that Jar described:
Jar writes:
I too would love to spend an evening with many of the posters here in a small, dark bar; old tables carved with names and initials, fireplace to drive away the chill, and tales told late into the evening.

Re: POTM
Sorry, Mike. I did not mean to come across as condescending in any way. You are the thinking mans Theist, and I respect that you respected me enough to nominate me. I just wanted to nominate someone else...most of the people in this forum are equally deserving. The old timers, anyways. At 600 + posts, I guess that I am about a teenager! I always get along wit da young set, anyways! When they see me imitating their slang, they strive to change it, however!

POTM forum topic clutter starting
Let's keep it to POTM nominations and maybe thank you notes.
Also, please try to do your part to avoid topic clutter in all the different forums. One little side comment tends to breed a series of the same.
Please take any responses to the message to the "Change in Moderation?" topic.
