In several place it's been hinted at.
In several places it has been discussed. And now... the discussion that has been brewing for ages...
(in a galaxy far far away... thundering music..)
"it's in the bible; the bible says it's the word of god."
"i don't think it has any standing because of X"
how do you feel about john? let's get some mad discussin' going on here.
remember kids. people are going to disagree with you; try to keep it civil. this idea has gotten panties bunched every time.
accuracy and inerrancy plz.

Re: The one whom Jesus loved....
i think it's a book. i haven't studied it in particular and thus i have not made a decision. i do not place much stock in the bible as a whole as inerrant but i do believe it is an attempt by a people to describe a real god who may or may not be as benevolent as we make him out to be. this is why i started this thread. because i have friends who quite dislike john and those who believe in the infallibility of scripture.

Re: The one whom Jesus loved....
well one of my friends thinks it's heresy. my friends and i are weird and have weird conversations. i'm really easy going and i am more picky about the type of person i hang out with and not what they think.

i've been a christian for eighteen years. i am not afraid of hellfire or your accusations that i neither know my god nor the book by which he shows himself.

identifying the koran and the book or mormon as religious texts that many people believe in does not in any way state a belief in the texts. the point of his comment was that using new testament verses to prove to a jew that jesus is the messiah is about as useful as using verses in the mormon text to prove to you that joseph smith actually had scrolls that weren't just pages from the egyptian book of the dead.
oh and since when does the financial well-being of the members of a religion have any bearing on the verity of that religion? i know a whole lot of really rich christians. in fact. there's this one christian who is so rich that he ran an oil company into the ground but could still afford to run for president, TWICE!
oh yes. btw. if you paste your posts into word or another word processor, you can spellcheck them and then seem just that much more credible.

solomon was rich and david had a grand army. why? because god gave it to them because they were faithful.
there's lots to gain from religion because god says he will bless you.

1. are people perfect
2. if no, then do you accept that we make mistakes?
3. even when it's important?
4. especially when it's important and there's lots of pressure?
5. bible=important
6. lots of mistakes.
i'm not suggesting falsification (except maybe deuteronomy); but it's an edited compilation of many sacred documents. these documents are sacred because they give a hint to the character of god and how he relates to mankind, not because they are historically accurate or perfectly transcribed.
