top three
3. Blue Oyster Cult (ca 1975) — Before the FDA made them scale back their laser show (for safety reasons).
2. Paul Simon Graceland Tour — Sat on a hillside in a thunderstorm in an amphitheater in Northern Virginia waiting for the show to start. Simon came on stage saying he hoped the rain would stop and just about then it did. The show was awesome with the highlight being Ladysmith Black Mbazo’s performance.
1. First Sunsplash concert at the Bob Marley Memorial Pavilion in Montego Bay Jamaica (Thanksgiving week 1981ish)— Three days of concerts from sundown to sunup. Grateful Dead, English Beat, Jimmy Cliff, Rita Marley and the I Threes, Toots and the Maytalls, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Peter Tosh, et. al. The pavilion was actually a stage in a field surrounded by chain link fence topped with razor wire.

Beck at Northwestern. It was maybe a 400 person show; he spent about five minutes between each song chatting with the audience.
And Karnak holds the envelope to his forehead and announces....?????????????????

Rock: Little Feat, and I can't even remember the arena but it was in Memphis in about 1976. I'm sure it was not the Mid-South Coliseum.
Classical: MS Symphony and MS Chorus performing Beethoven's 9th at Thalia Mara Hall in Jackson, MS. About 1991.
Lam, ever seen the old British film Brief Encounter? I'm not a fan of love stories, but this one is different in that the story is unique, never clichd. The score makes beautiful use of Rachmaninov's music, and if your a fan of Rach you really should see the picture. It's based on a Noel Coward play. It is one of the early directorial efforts of David Lean, who later brought us such blockbusters as Bridge on the River Kwai, Lawrence of Arabia and A Passage to India.

I've never seen them live but I sure would love to. If I happen to hear of them playing on the Coast, New Orleans or Memphis I might go. I wouldn't walk across the street to see them in Jackson, though, cuz that coliseum has the most dreadful acoustics of any indoor arena I've ever been to.
