How does "creation" explain the appearance of new animals?

I dont understand how people who dont believe in evolution explain the fact that people, house cats, dogs, and tons of other species didnt live in prehistoric times? How do they explain how they got there? Do they think god like created stuff as he went along?this seems like such a basic question but i had trouble finding any thoughts about it....

lol, i dont know anything about evolution or creation. I don't believe in god so i naturally thought evolution made more sence. Its a simple question, maybe an admin can give me like a one sentance answer i dont know.
I just dont get it....and i dont know enough to make my question any more specific
