This looks like one of those some-spikes with some-imagination kinda thingy... sort of like Nostradamus stuff. Anyone else know anything about this?
My question is how can the machine know what event is significant and which is not? I mean, why doesn't the machine predict an event like me taking a shower at 9 this morning? How does it recognize which is important enough to predict?

I wondered about this - it's suppose to be tied into the human mind?
Does that mean that the Micheal Jackson trial should "pop up"?

You can see that there is a pretty large spike around August 20, 2001. Checking Wikipedia, we find that it was on this date that Regis Philbin broke the record for Most Hours on Camera, with 15,188.
Also, I'm sure all the "top scientists," as the article calls them, study magic boxes that tell the future. I mean, who needs new treatments for diseases or new technology or pictures of faraway planets when you can study some magic calculator with psychic powers!

The value of a device that could predict such earth shattering events as the Neilson Ratings for televising Di's funeral is not be be underestimated. Was she sick for very long?\

Events are 'significant' if they affect the Global consciousness. One man's shower does not.

Thanks for the answer, but that doesn't answer my question. Read the question again.
