I nearly always keep track of new threads and posts through the all topics list: http:// EvC Forum: All Topics --> EvC Forum: All Topics However, with the advent of the new 'proposed new topics' and 'proposed topics archive' forums, threads can become highly reduntant, or most of those shown are just closed threads by admins. When there was just the proposed new topics forum it was annoying but tollerable, but now when I list all topics, it appears that 75% of them are all useless closed topics in the topics archive forum. I think a function to be able to filter out the threads in the 'proposed new topics' and/or the 'proposed topics archive' when using the all topics list would be very helpful. -Chris Grose

I usually do the same. It would be a shame to loose that simple functionality of seeing what has happened in reasonable amount of time.

I would like to keep seeing the "Proposed Topics" posts since it can be useful to know what proposals are out there (at a minimum it helps reduce duplication). It also means that I don't have to og into a differnet view to find a response to my proposals. The "Proposed Topics Archive" threads, on the other hand, will rarely be relevant and IMHO should be excluded from the standard "All Topics" view if that is possible.

Heh. I just posted the same thing on the other suggestions thread, although you did a lot better explaining than I did.

But you can always go to the PNT or PTA fora to see them. Why do they need to be included in the 'All Topics' list? I agree with Chris. Cut out the redundant clutter.

The old "Proposed New Topics" archive system removed the topics from the various lists, and hid them away in an archive that could still be viewed if you knew where to look. In the current system, when a topic is sent to the "Topic Proposals Archive", the "Proposed New Topic" version is deleted. I think kinks are still being worked out of the system. I definitely think the "Proposed New Topics" need to be in the "View All Topics" list. But the "Topic Proposals Archive" should be excluded from that list. Right now, I don't think all the proposed versions are getting archived. Adminnemooseus

Well at the other extreme you could avoid the "All Topics" view all together and just look at individual fora. Do you want to do that ? If not then you will have to accept that I personally like to see the proposals as they come up and would like them kept in "All Topics".

Good point. PNTs should be listed under 'All Topics' so long as they are pending. Once a PNT has been either approved or rejected, the PNT copy is redundant and doesn't belong in the 'All Topics' list. Or at least that's my opinion. I realize that "kinks are still being worked out". Generally speaking this issue is a minor annoyance, but when topics are archived en masse it creates a mess, as can be seen in the 'All Topics' list right now.

Yeah, Paul, I wasn't thinking of that little detail. I agree that PNTs should be listed, as I said to moose, at least until they've been approved or rejected.

"Topic Proposals Archive" permissions changed
The "start new topic" and "post to topic" permissions had been "by any member". They have now been changed to "by admin only". Kind of like a sheephearding measure . Adminnemooseus

Adminnemooseus in an earlier message writes: But the "Topic Proposals Archive" should be excluded from that list. I may just need to take that back. It is perhaps unfortunate that occassionally housekeeping chores may cause a glut of "Topic Proposals Archive" topics to appear all at once. But I think it good that we keep this archiving in the prominent public eye. I haven't studied the current crop, but I suspect many (most?) are rejected "Proposed New Topics". My guess is that the promoted PNT's are not part of the backlog. But I may be wrong. Not going to study the situation right now - Gotta get some "real world" work done. Adminnemooseus

what about a filter that removes all closed threads from the {ALL TOPICS} list OR better, having a second {ALL OPEN TOPICS} list? (that would allow individuals to make their own choice of which to use).
