Not sure if this has been suggested before - would there be any mileage in a forum for discussing news articles? Each thread would need to link to a news article from a neutral source (CNN, yahoo news, NY Times etc but no World Net Daily or Csicop articles) with a small cut-and-paste to get the gist of the srticle (4 paragraphs or less is considered acceptable by most sources). I'd suggest having the subject line the same as the headline, too...
It was this article that set me thinking:
Not Found - The New York Times
On Imax theatres cutting films that mention evolution, but I'm not sure where it would be discussed in the current structure...
Edit: Wrong link.

I think such can be done in the context of the existing forums.
Your example is covered at Creationists take their fight to the really big screen.
Perhaps the topic title could have been better (should have had "IMAX" in it), but being that it was Adminnemooseus that promoted the "Proposed New Topic", I guess I can't now gripe about that much.

i like this idea, but i think it might be difficult for us to decide on what news sources are neutral. Time-Warner, for example, donates millions to the major US political parties (leaning more towards the democrats than the republicans) (see Organization Profiles OpenSecrets) and I think it would be a bit naive to think that there aren't political things going on behind the scenes.
it would be better if when we post an interesting news item, we give our own view of the independence (or otherwise) of the news media we have quoted, if we think it is an issue, as well as our view of the story.

I like the idea of an "In The News" forum. As Adminnemooseus suggests, title of topics should be the same as the headline. In addition to the originator's comments and quotes, the opening post should include a link to the article. If the on-line source requires registration that isn't free then the originator should provide relevant excerpts.
I do feel like we aren't sufficiently exposed to current events here, and this forum might help remedy this.
What do others think?

I think it's an excellent way to organize topics that are already being discussed in various places here.
