ceremonial burials and artworks predate agricultural life.
there is also some evidence that average standard of living was not much better but that there was greater variation. Agriculture allowed greater population density and luxury for some at the expense of losses for the less fortunate\connected. egyptian burials of common folk show the effects of a hard life compared to those of hunter gatherers.
there have been several 'population explosions' due to cultural inovations, with agriculture being the second or third (followed by industrial). complex tool making also benefited the population dynamics.
