Give a Shout Out to a virtual audience
The purpose of this topic is simply to allow anyone to have the opportunity to say whatever they want to say to everyone who may be listening to them here at EvC forum. Any topic is fair game, and politeness and proper form is expected.
Jump up here on the podium and give your best advice, encouragement, philosophy, or pet topic that you feel must be said. Everyone can have about a screens worth of stuff to say...a good three minute speech. Direct your rant at everyone and not just a select audience of one, two, or a few. This soapbox can be heard for virtually thousands of miles away from your computer!

And my rant of the day is based on my job at a grocery store.
Why do shoppers always cherry pick sales? They seemingly ignore store rules on limits and instead try and make excuses as to why they and only they should be entitled to purchase a truckload of a sale item, which runs us out of the item and causes irritation from other shoppers deprived of the item. People are so darn greedy! Human nature at its raunchiest!
They may assume that we should stock enough of a sale item...and we try....but when one guy buys 25 pork ribs on sale, he wipes out the shelf for the next ten customers or so...even when we impose item limits the people try and find a way to cheat the limitation. Well...that's my rant for today!

Shoplifters & Corporate Greed
The Union Contract is up again, and as usual, our corporation refuses to budge on key matters. Negotiations continue on that, but one concern that many of us in the stores themselves have is the low priority that the company has for providing basic security and anti-theft observation. We see people steal every day. These are brazen episodes..people will walk in the door with large empty backpacks and shoulder bags and leave with the bags and backpacks clearly stuffed....our store is audited and found down by a thousand dollars a day! This could be prevented if the corporation even cared. Granted not everyone is a thief and we try not to profile nor stereotype customers, but when you see the same thing happening day after day and when you also see a company that wants to attack its own labor union by lowering minimum hours, increasing demands on labor while reducing staffing, and eliminating pension benefits as well as health insurance benefits, it seems as if though they don't want to make money for anyone except corporate pockets. After all, you can write off losses from theft, but you have to reduce labor expense in order to gain additional bottom line profit. It is hard enough to get anyone to even want to work at the grocery store these days, and I fear that this next contract won't come without a fight. At age 60, I am ten years away from retirement and I need my health benefits as well as guaranteed minimum hours. Why must corporations fight their own labor staff in order for those at the top to make any money?
We have fought to bring our wages up to above industry minimums, and we guarantee new hires health insurance now also...but apparently the company wants cheaper disposable labor similar to what the fast food industry has.

Shoplifters Are Getting Ridiculous
I see many of the same ones all of the time. One guy comes in around 11 pm. The store is empty. He goes around picking up his items, grabs a gallon of milk, fills a basket, and walks straight out the door. I am never allowed to confront these people, but calmly ask them if they are ready to check out and they simply ignore me, leaving the store rapidly. We have security in the daytime but not later at night when I work.
Shoplifters come in all shapes sizes and colors, but they differ in their approach. Some are simply homeless and hungry. They grab a sandwich and leave. I don't mind them so much. It's the ones who boost expensive items to make a profit. I get so mad at these people!! What gives them the right? The audacity!! If I can't have something for free, NOBODY should have it! I would be for hiring private thugs to apprehend these people were it my store. I defy anyone to make a case for why these people have a right to do what they do!! It hurts all of us, but it hurts my wages on top of it all. Our store loses roughly $800.00 a day to theft. The new manager has cut our hours by 10%. Thus, we are each earning roughly 8 hours a week less wage which works out to $100.00+ a week for me.
One would be amazed to know that roughly one in 20 shoppers steal. It almost makes me want to give in to a higher security state. At least we would be stopping all the theft.

Re: Shoplifters Are Getting Ridiculous
well im all for high tech cameras and facial recognition scanning. all that security needs to do is identify the perps. The police can do the rest. My point is that these people have no right to do what they do. I feel they are stealing directly from me. I say that humans need to police themselves....weed out the bad apples.
Even jesus said that not everyone finds the narrow road. I would submit that honesty is a basic human requirement from each other. Stealing hurts all of us.
There would be no theft in Heaven.

Re: Shoplifters Are Getting Ridiculous
It is not that bad here yet, but if guards controlled the door, we would save at least 500.00 a day plus enough to pay the guard. I suspect that one reason the company has security is simply to get a better rate on loss insurance. They write all the theft off, but they can't do that with labor so they cut us! Thus even if they saved the shoplifting money I likely wouldn't see any of it.

Re: Shoplifters Are Getting Ridiculous
Well I know that! What gets me angry is that the store does little to stop them, and the hours keep getting cut from we employees to compensate.
