I try not to affiliate with either party.
...I like to pet soft things. Our family has had two dogs and one cat. I loved the black lab and the cat, but the brittany was super annoying.

Moose and Stripe:
Stripe was a very ill kitty in this photo (peretonitis). He died +/- a week later. New and younger cat Squeak:
Squeak (then called "Tawney Kitty") ended up at the vertranary clinic I work at as cleaning dude. She and another cat had been abandoned in a house when the renter moved out. It was a while before she was discovered. She came very close to starving to death - Had to be force fed at the clinic. A second cat did not survive. I first had cats starting in Montana in about 1995, when I took over Hiss and Sly from friends. While there, a third little kitten showed up and moved in, who I called "Scruffy" I moved back to Nevada with 3 cats in the pickup cab with me, they being more or less tranquilized for part of the trip. Sly, per his history, seemed immune to the tranquilizer pill. Initially after I got to Nevada, I had the cats staying with a friend while I found a place to stay (camper trailer in a mobile home park). There a coyote or owl apparently got Scruffy. Moved back to Minnesota with Hiss and Sly (who, btw, grew up together). Sly became diabetic, and was too far gone to save with maintainance insulin treatment. Had to have euthanized. So, had: Sly and Hiss, then Sly and Hiss and Scruffy, then back to Sly and Hiss, then just Hiss, then Hiss and Stripe, then just Hiss, and now Hiss and Squeak. I have developed a tradition of naming cats to start with "S", although all had been named before I realized such. Maybe not a good idea, considering the history of Scruffy, Sly, and Stripe. They were all male. Hiss and Squeak are female. Moose Added by edit: I don't have much for photos of Sly and Scruffy, and none in digital form. Edited by Minnemooseus, : Change ID. I've wondered if the evo side tends to be "cat people", and the creo side, "dog people". I was a dog person all my life until just around the time of my conversion to Christianity. As with salvation, my conversion to cats was something done to me rather that me doing anything (except not rejecting the action. In fact it is a decent picture of the process of salvation - the conversion happens in such a way that you don't know you are converted until you realize you are converted. http://EvC Forum: Your pictures/faces -->EvC Forum: Your pictures/faces

Hello.
I'm an Evo and like both, to be honest. But, if I was forced to choose between the two, I would have to go dog. I love cats and grew up with a couple of them, only to have both of them runoff. The greatest reason I do not have a cat as of now is because of the vast amount of birds that live around my house. Swooping through backyard to backyard, looking for food, nesting in and around trees in my yard, this cat could possibly kill many of them. I recall watching an Ultimate Guide edition on the Science Channel about cats. The house cat was the most successful predator of all the cats. They kill, if I remember correctly, between 3-5 billion birds annually in the U.S. alone. To my liking, my dog is rather indifferent to birds. However, I'm sure the simple solution would be to keep my cat indoors more often. Edited by Infixion, : Added last line.

I got this photo from http://news.yahoo.com/...0060610/ap_on_fe_st/cat_scares_bear. The story is also there.
The photo by itself is here. As stored on my own site, at least for now:

In a similar vein, I know at least two people who have seen dogs get beaten up by rabbits.

Outstanding photo, Moose. They don't call cats hypercarnivores for nuthin'...
To respond to a post from the animals-on-the-ark now made safe from cats, and in my capacity as a tolerated (but not endorsed, oh no) spokesperson for the Family of Felines...
My cat like sticky labels, plastic tags, rubber bands and staples from my staple gun. I have observed him eat all of them. The staple made him sick almost straight away (which is probably a good thing) but the other stuff was never to be seen again. He also spends a good bit of his time eating my potted ferns and palms, which really pisses me off Basicly cats are pretty dumb really. In their own arena, they are brilliant. Cats are poor candidates for domestication; they seem to like us against their better judgment. Perfect little furry killing machines develop grudging affection for naked monkeys! Whodathunkit? Maybe they find our own fatal talents charming, though it doesn't take many weeks in the wild to make a cat irretrievably feral. They have no sense of indebtedness, though, and their royal pomp moots questions of entitlement. Still, like all our pets, they can become funhouse mirrors of us. In an environment that is increasingly artificial for us, and even more so for them, it's no surprise they share our bent for picas and other quirks.

quote: Most people know that giving milk to cats is not good but don't know why that is. Many cats are lactose intolerant like many East Asian people. What lactose intolerance is is not the complete lack of the ability to digest lactose. Rather, it is when the body hasn't had milk for so long (or has never had milk before) that the body isn't used to such a substance. Like all lactose intolerant people, tolerance can be built up by introducing a small dose at a time and then increase the dosage. This is why kittens love milk but as they grow older they begin to become more susceptible to becoming lactose intolerant. Ask any current lactose intolerant person. He'll tell you that he used to drink milk when he was little.

Something I was previously aware of, but was pointed out to me again via
Charles Mingus' Guide to Cat Toilet Traning - WFMU's Beware of the Blog. See http://www.mingusmingusmingus.com/Mingus/cat_training.html for full article. See also Achewood § June 20, 2003, which is from a reply message at the WFMU blog. By the way, now have a third cat, a black and white male named "Teddy" (no photo available). Adopted from the local animal shelter. As my charity, I am currently attempting to keep that shelter stocked with kitty litter. Teddy joins Hiss and Squeak. My cat history story is here. How I wish there's a way to toilet train my dogs.
