Does anyone here think that playing a game like D&D is a bad thing?
I've just had the pleasure of visiting this site: Chick.com: Chick Cartoon Gospel Tracts Make Witnessing So Easy! There was an artical implieing that D&D was:
William Schnoebelen writes: (D&D) is essentially a feeding program for occultism and witchcraft. Now, I don't know about anyone here who has played the game (if any), but I for one have played D&D for the best part of 20 years and still concider occultism and withcraft to be in the same boat as any other belief in the supernatural. My queston to people who have played D&D (or any other fantasy RPG) is this: Has playing the game changed your position on the likelyhood of the world having a supernatural component? In this case a dark evil one. Or: Have you learnt any real magic? Coffee House please. Edited by Larni, : No reason given.

Larni, if you actually got any pleasure out of Jack Chick's website, you must be tougher than I. Morbid fascination, maybe.....

In and of itself, a fantasy game is harmless. Kids have great imaginations, and adults are now playing creative games to escape from responsibility for a few hours once in awhile.
Having said that, it is my opinion that a person who claims to be a Christian can either: 1) Trust God, lean NOT on thy own understanding, and allow Gods Spirit to become your imagination which is better than: 2) Visualization, or imagining your own path or destiny. This falls into the Ye shall be as gods category. as far as D & D goes, I played it a couple of times when it first came out and it was quite fun. Everything has its limits, though. BTW, I know that there is a supernatural component to life....I just can't prove it. Good thing, maybe Edited by Phat, : add by edit Edited by Phat, : oi vey

Nope.. it sure has not.
It has no effect what so ever on my disbelief in the supernatural.

You haven't played a real game of D&D until you have DMed a game at a fundementalist Christian bible week, in a caravan, with all the elders of the church surrounding said caravan, praying fervantly against the situation

"LEAN not on thine own understanding" doesn't mean abandon your own understanding. Relying on spirits whispering in your ear is certainly more dangerous than any role-playing game. At least D & D players (usually) know it's just their imagination. Help scientific research in your spare time. No cost. No obligation. Join the World Community Grid with Team EvC

Yeah I played D & D - you obviously never reached 21st level. At that point you get inducted into the Dark Brotherhood and learn the secret heresies. But that is nothing, I moved on to become a 4th Generation methuselah in White Wolf, and have now learned the secrets of Caine's immortality and have received the blessings of Isis.
20 years ago, I would killed for saying these things, but the strength of our masquerade is so strong, that nobody would believe me unless they already suspected it to be true. We know who suspects the truth and Astaroth has plans for them. For the others reading this, know that our Domovoi and Leszi watch you for the signs. Bloody sacrifice awaits any that stand in our path. William J. Schnoebelen is a member of our savage cult, spreading an elaborate bluff, but some people believe him and they are dealt with in the correct manner. Just kidding of course, to discover the real truth one should reverberate the name of Thantifaxath in B sharp as if in the hollows of chthonian deeps. I will hear you if you do, and shall appear in a dream calling myself David and wearing a seven pointed crown adorned with infant sacrifices. Hail Kurgasiax!

Have you learnt any real magic? Well, I've learned how to live forever barring a few misfortunes like having a wooden stake driven through my heart. The downside is a rather monotonous diet of human blood. I sadly have to forgo all that delicious Italian food that is spiced with garlic to which I've developed a severe possibly fatal allergy. I sometimes ask myself is eternity worth it considering that sunlight can evaporate me? lfen

Sounds Cool. I did play D&D in a campaign where one of the players was a RCC priest. He liked playing a cleric for some reason.
