life is but a dream
Nyeusigrube:
Does that mean everything in this life is fake, or rather, not worth anything?
Your question reminded me of the Buddhist take on it.
Life is a transitory illusion. Suffering comes from wanting too much from it. But this life is not to be despised. Happiness comes through mindfulness. We savor the things life brings us each moment and let go of those things life does not bring but that we often desire.

Re: Reminds Me of a Similar Perspective
Laurie Anderson!, the next post is predestined. The Talking Heads song Heaven:
quote:
Everyone is trying to get to the bar.
The name of the bar, the bar is called heaven.
The band in heaven plays my favorite song.
They play it once again, they play it all night long.
Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens.
Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens.
There is a party, everyone is there.
Everyone will leave at exactly the same time.
Its hard to imagine that nothing at all
Could be so exciting, and so much fun.
Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens.
Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens.
When this kiss is over it will start again.
It will not be any different, it will be exactly
The same.
Its hard to imagine that nothing at all
Could be so exciting, could be so much fun.
Heaven is a place where nothing every happens.
Heaven is a place where nothing every happens.
It may prove interesting to see who can or can not wrap their minds around such philosophically advanced concepts.

Everyone is trying to get to the bar.
Or in the case of works-based Religions, jump over it...

Does the bible mention our memories? On the offchance that it's right, I'd like to know if I should expect to remember better times when i'm in hell. =\

You'll probably gloat.
According to Jesus, there is a balcony in Heaven overlooking Hell where the saved get to point at and mock the roasting sinners.

Could you put up the verses in which you sense "gloating", Chirop. Its a long passage you posted there

Start at verse 19.
I understand, iano; many people find lengthy Biblical passages boring.

Re: Start at verse 19.
I'm sure they do. I used to fall asleep with the boredom.
Anyway. "Gloating". Let's get it out there CP. There is nothing EvC likes to feed on more than unsubstantiated assertion.

Re: Start at verse 19.
If you have to explain a joke, then it probably wasn't funny to begin with.

Re: Start at verse 19.
This is true.
"Move along now folks - nothing here to see"
{AbE} Sorry to be such a hardass CP but the reason some folks are here is that we don't see such a vista as a joke and not at all something to be gloated over. Gloating is the furthest thing from our minds. Horror, despair, anguish....perhaps. But not gloating
Edited by iano, : No reason given.

Re: Start at verse 19.
That may be true. But when you read the bumber stickers on the cars around here, you certainly get the impression that what some Christians feel is a sense of smug superiority, and a satisfaction that those losers who don't see the light are finally gonna get theirs.

I dk about roasting. the first circle is pretty quiet and boring. The last is pretty cold, so either be marginally bad or reeeeaaaaly bad. (According to Dante)

-I believe in God, I just call it Nature
-One man with an imaginary friend is insane. a Million men with an imaginary friend is a religion.
-People must often be reminded that the bible did not arrive as a fax from heaven; it was written by men.
-Religion is the opiate of the masses
