evolution is under attack, not evolutionism
the problem is, evolutionism is a philosophy. evolution is the science. and it's not the philosophy that is trying to defend itself. Creationists (of your sort) aren't attacking the philosophy. You all are attacking the science, which is why evolution is defending itself.
my vote is with the current one, but then, I'm resistant to specific changes. perhaps if someone could give a reason for change?
(on a somewhat funny note, isn't odd how the creationists have launched this "pre-emptive attack", just like bushed launched his "pre-emptive attack" against Iraq? Neither iraq or evolution pose a direct threat, just a percieve one. so out goes the traditional american response of waiting to actually be attacked with the creationists. just my rambling, it's off topic, ignore it everyone)

Re: evolution is under attack, not evolutionism
You all are attacking the science, which is why evolution is defending itself.
How many here are in a postion to suppose themselves able to evaluate the science in order to be sure that evolution (scientifically) occurred. A mere handful.
The rest? Evolutionism explains it best.
If you don't agree, a short essay describing how mutation is sufficient to result in the diversity we see around us would suffice as rebuttal.

Re: evolution is under attack, not evolutionism
I don't know if you caught what I'm saying.
what i said, in hopefully more clear terms, is this.
evolutionism = is a philosophy, not a science, and in fact, used by your crowd to discredit evolution :
the words evolutionist and evolutionism are widely used by creationists and others in the United States who are opposed to the theory of evolution; they use those two words to imply that the scientific community's attachment to the theory of evolution is a matter of religious faith and is just another -ism, not a matter of scientific proof
down towards the bottom
evolution = the theory, the science. it is not a philosophy.
In the EvC struggle, it is actually the theory, not the philosophy, that is under attack by your crowd. (for you all, the two are as one, which isn't true). Hence, the logo should read "evolution vs. creation".
I don't see why I should have to write an essay. It's not that difficult to explain and understand the evidence, so long as you can remain unbiased. (unless relying on physical evidence is a bias)
abe:
sorry jar. you posted you're warning while i was composing this post, so . . .

Topic folk.
This thread is to discuss the logos proposed. Let's stick to that and not get drawn off into the debate on Evolution vs Creationism.
Stick to the logos Please!

    Re: Topic folk.
    Sorry Jar.
I have a high flying graphic artist for a sister and have picked up little bits over the years as to what constitutes graphic art. And if she were looking at the options she would plump for either the existing or the last proposed as meriting mention.
I would guess she would agree with me that the original, graphic artisted-ly would win hands down - losing only because it is "old"
It has essential elements: a depiction of evolution with is jaw agape - consuming without fear or favour. It has one of the most beautiful images we have seen (a representation of that famous Apollo photo). And a maelstrom in the middle representing both the debate and either way it came about. And sat atop: the purpose of the site in no uncertain terms.
The best new candidate (judging by the opinion so far), although tasteful, cool and crisp (if needing some polishing) represents a far more polarized view and tends to suppose some of the answers we are supposed to be questioning.

    Logo Choice
I like the current one, 3 and 5 in that order.
Maybe put the words in the right order on the current one.

I'll put my vote in to keep the original, otherwise the last one.

On reflection, the best contender would be on the way to winning an award were the purpose of this site not debate but instead depicting an established entity. It is visually very arresting. The colour chosed attractive and modern (without looking like it will age badly). Some work on the text is all that is required
    Compliments to the (oops) creator

    Re: Topic folk.
Have the last one but make sure u change the wording to Evolution versus Creation or vs.
You need the "Vs" in there, it rolls off the tongue.
The original is still cool, but the last one on there is really kind of cool, I should make one, mine would be the best I think ahha.

You should get a couple more and have a huge voting poll or something. And if Percy agrees, why not?

We are polling the members right now. If you have something to contribute, do so. The one restriction is that it should be 770x109 px.
