Lie by Lie: A Timeline of How We Got Into Iraq – Mother Jones
I took the trouble to read this all, which took about two hours. It documents precisely the timeline of events from before 9/11 to the war on Iraq and beyond. It highlights the lies and misinformation that the Bush administration has perpetrated during its time in command.
Everything in the timeline has supporting links, many to freely available news publications like CNN.
I have seen people defending Bush and his administration, often very eloquently, during my time as a registered poster here. I suppose the first and only question I have is simply this: how do you defend all this? How do you explain or make excuses for this man, who sent your sons and daughters to die in Iraq on the basis of... what? Intelligence they knew was very weak at best or completely false at worst?
I'm willing to admit that I might not have all the facts, living as I do in Ireland and not America. But as it is I'm not surprised the Democrats won so convincingly.
I highlight this particular piece:
quote:
27th Feb. 2003 Diplomat John Brady Kiesling resigns his post at the US embassy in Greece with a scathing letter to Colin Powell.
"Our fervent pursuit of war with Iraq is driving us to squander the international legitimacy that has been America's most potent weapon. We have begun to dismantle the largest and most effective web of international relationships the world has ever known. Our current course will bring instability and danger, not security. We have not seen such systematic distortion of intelligence, such systematic manipulation of American opinion, since the war in Vietnam."
"Mr. Secretary, I have enormous respect for your character and ability. You have preserved more international credibility for us than our policy deserves, and salvaged something positive from the excesses of an ideological and self-serving Administration. But your loyalty to the President goes too far."
From this and the results of the recent elections, it seems quite obvious that the American people share some of his sentiment.
Coffee House please.

Actually, this means that you probably have a better understanding of the facts than the typical American.

Kings were put to death long before 21 January 1793. But regicides of earlier times and their followers were interested in attacking the person, not the principle, of the king. They wanted another king, and that was all. It never occurred to them that the throne could remain empty forever. -- Albert Camus

The silence is deafening
I'm sorry but I must apologize for Americans. As you mentioned, working through the mass of data does take time. Becoming an Informed Citizen is work. Far to many Americans do not feel it is their responsibility to do that work.

Is there not a man among you willing to step forward and either debate this question or admit you were mistaken?

Hey! The American public is informed! They can tell you exactly what happened on Dancing with the Stars and Grey's Anatomy!

I am sorry. I am part of the american public. I do not know what happened on grey's anatomy and dancing with the stars. I am, in a word, uninformed.
and yes, reality tv sucks. unless your talking about a real reality tv show, like survivor man.
oh, I can tell you what happens in many mash shows, though.

If you haven't noticed, EvC is going through a transition period. In the last couple weeks, some of our most prominent bush defenders as well as bush criticisers have simply "abandoned ship". The remaining bush defenders already have their hands full in other threads. I, too, asked a simple question in this thread and haven't got any reply yet. It's a much simpler question to answer than your question and it's still being ignored.
Isn't the silence enough of a hint for you?

Of course the silence is a hint. But I don't want to let this go simply because people don't have the time to respond at the moment.
I'll just keep bumping it at regular intervals until they have the time.

You think I should keep bumping my thread as well? My thread, I think, is even simpler to answer than yours. I asked a very simple question that requires a very simple answer. If I'm not getting any answer from the other side, fat chance you're going to get an answer on your very complicated question that requires a very complicated answer from the other side.
PS - Aren't you a geologist?

It's very easy to let something slide when your opponents suddenly go silent. Quite frankly, I've seen it many times while debating creationists here and on other boards. But this is something I feel is pure evil, in the best Christian meaning of the word - Bush started a war that killed thousands of American soldiers and countless civilians, based on lies and misinformation. Whatever his motives were, this was a malicious act and if true he deserves to be impeached and jailed. This is the man who is supposed to be the leader of the Free World.
So if you feel very strongly about your question and feel it deserves an answer, please do bump your thread. I'll bump it too if you want.
Yeah I'm a geologist.
