Punishment
Jesus was for against the ideas of punishment. He who has not sinned cast the first stone etc.
Let's take it closer to home and see how it looks.
You have children and must decide if violence is a good teaching tool.
I would suggest that the use of violence or punishment of any kind shows a failure on the part of the parent to use his or her own intelligence to deal with whatever situation is at hand.
The punishment is a measure of your own shame from failure.
God has all in place so that He will never need to punish.

Re: Punishment
"for what Father does not discipline his sons."
There is a big difference between discipline, chastisement and corporeal punishment.
I raised 4 boys.
The eldest was spanked twice.
I was shamed twice. I blamed it on my youth but the blame belongs to my ignorance.

Re: Physical Discipline trumps Mental Discipline
I can only reiterate that corporeal punishment means that the parent has failed to rear up child with the proper mind set.
I child is born as a blank piece of paper on witch the parent tries to write all the proper phrases. When we fail we spank. Who then learns the lesson and what is the lesson.
This may be part of the law that Jesus wanted to change. It would be in character.
Parents who spank are copping out on their own responsibilities to grow with their child.
To return to the topic. How do we know that God has only one begotten sun. If He can make one why not more. The universe is large.

Not sure where you went with this but if the child gains control then what good is the parent.
The parents failure again.

Re: Physical Discipline trumps Mental Discipline
I have already been chastised for going off topic. They may do it again so lets go back to John.
The whole of john seems insecure. It says may, and might, words I use when I am not sure of a statement. It shows uncertainty in the events to come.
Should we have faith in phrases where the writer is not confident.

Re: Physical Discipline trumps Mental Discipline
"That whosoever believeth in him should not perish".
"Should" leaves the room for doubt in the statement.
A word like will would indicate certainty.
I recognize that this is nit picking but from my point of view that states that we all go to Heaven, and that this view places doubt on the whole of John because my God is a God of inclusion not exclusion witch to me is a sign of a true God.

Re: Physical Discipline trumps Mental Discipline
If life is to be good, mankind needs purpose.
Our purpose is dependent on our environment. We as humans have no way to see the total impact on our environment that our actions cause. Even as I write these word, I have no real knowledge as to what impact I have, if any, on those who read.
One thing we know we must all do is learn of the tree of good and evil. We cannot defer this duty. We are perfectly suited to learn these lessons.
We are all destine for Heaven. This does not mean we have a free ride. If we do not seek wisdom on our own we can rest assured that God will find a way to teach us in His own way.

The answer lies in whether or not God favors the creation of chimeras.
This would determine if a higher species like God should, or could, use humans to reproduce.
Biblical history shows God created us and then let sons of God access our women to produce chimers that God then drowns as useless humans. Genocide against chimeras that He allowed is a good indicator that God does not believe in chimeras.
Is it logical then to think that He in all His glory would turn around and use another’s woman to reproduce a chimera. Please say no.
Jesus was a good, perhaps great prophet and Rabbi. That is all.
To call Jesus a chimera or Man/God hybrid is to insult both God and Jesus.
Are you one who insults Jesus and God?

If you cannot read chapter one properly then how can you be expected to know how to read the rest.
All Bibles have value but they must be read the right way.
No talking snakes please. They lead to fundamentals.
Not a good thing.

Re: Sometimes I wonder
I hope so. If not, why would anyone want the God of humans to be a chimera.
We are part of a natural system.
The God of ants is an ant.
The God of lions is a lion.
The God of man must be a man.
Why would we be the only ones in God's natural precedents that finds it's God in some alien culture?
