Re: A riddle for Mike
I haven't seen the right answer yet, but I think I must clear up a misunderstanding: I said that the merely smart person must be eliminated in one go, by which I meant just one round of words. The silence after "Bismuth" simply means that everyone has said their word and that it's done. There is a clue in the description of the group, although I think you'd need a reverse dictionary - a dictionary in which the descriptions of the words are alphabetized rather than the words themselves - to look it up.

Re: A riddle for Mike
I later thought that the answer would be a non-metal. But unlike you guys I don't have knowledge of the periodic table. So if Iodine is the non-metal I would have went with that, but Para' hasn't got back to you yet. We'll have to wait on his answer.

ANSWER TO THE RIDDLE
ANSWER TO THE RIDDLE OF THE IRREFUTABLE BEGINNING Highlight blank black space below for answer.
My date of birth is the 27th of January 1981. Since shop two was number "29", then the first shop must either be number 27 or number 31. SInce higher is lower, then the first shop is stated as lower than the shop I stopped at. Therefore, it logically must be 27. As for the rest, if you read back you will see that Para' and a couple of others were right about many things.

Re: A riddle for Mike
The "best of a class" are "elite", but I can't figure out how this relates to the different elements, or if I'm even on the right track. It was the only thing in the description of the group that looked like a definition.

Re: A riddle for Mike
The second person was smart because he recognized "Iodine" as the element rather than the more commonly-known ("tincture of") antiseptic. The class was chemists. If the second person had said, "Mercurochrome", the list would be very different indeed.

On the right track

mike the wiz writes: I don't have knowledge of the periodic table. You'll be fine if you can read it. (Nice twist in your own riddle, Mike, I don't think I would have guessed it.) Added by edit: I hope you don't mind that I put my riddle in your thread. I don't mean to hijack it. Edited by Parasomnium, : see above

Re: A riddle for Mike
If the best of a class can also be defined as "prime." Then I think the answer is Cobalt, since it is the only element listed whose atomic number is not prime.
