Books, Books, Books...
There are actually a lot of good popsci books out there. However, if you just want one that fits your criteria (easy to read, less than 400 pages, not a textbook, etc), I can't recommend more highly Edward O. Wilson's The Diversity of Life (W.W. Norton, NY, 1992). It even has pretty pictures.

Collins
I would suggest "The Language of God" by Francis Collins. Collins can speak to him as a fellow Christian and as a highly acclaimed biologist at the same time.
A Christian writer will have much more credibility with him than a non-Christian writer. You would probably enjoy it yourself.

Everybody is entitled to my opinion.

All good new info for me
Will pick up just about everything mentioned...rather than get all of my evolutionary theory from the likes of Richard Dawkins, who seemlessly moves from fact to his own theory and political views. If you ONLY read him, you might find yourself believing everything he does...which might be pop culture right now, but not what you would believe if given a broader spectrum to critique, and ask yourself, what makes the most sense to me? Having a base in biology is a good place to start, but I dont find it hard to believe that I could get lost in a particular writer's ideals easily if persuaded enough. In my case, that would potentially stall the process of learning.
I feel the same could be said for just about anyone.
