His chances of being assassinated are too great to make me feel comfortable about voting for him. But I will anyway. McCain's chances of dying in office without being assassinated are probably just as good. These concerns are huge with respect to who becomes VP.

What are Obama's "chances" for beeing assassinated? Why would they be greater than if McCain got elected?
I happen to be suspicious that not everyone in America loves Barack Obama. And because I regard him as a rare mixture of features from JFK and MLK Jr.”both assassinated”I fear that those who hate him might do so with even greater ferocity. In my purely subjective opinion, I see Obama as having a greater risk of assassination than McCain. I have no way of measuring this objectively. Just a gut feeling. Maybe I worry too much for his safety; he's the best thing to come along in a good, long while.*
And why is this even in your considerations?
Maybe I shouldn't. Or maybe I should worry it about more privately.
”HM
*I also worry that we are asking him to do too much too soon. Andrew Young said he wants to see Obama elected POTUS...in 2016. I tend to agree.

It would be interesting to examine how the magic label word has been used to describe others that Right Wing Authoritarians seek to demonize:
Jew
Commie
Fag
Nigger (and all other racial epithets)
Pinko
Hippie
Intellectual
Elitist
Papist
Humanist
Pacifist
Evolutionist
I think it was James McMurtry who explained that the term "cowboy" was initially intended as a slur on those men who herded cattle on horseback. "Cattlemen" would have been more respectful, but that term was already in use; it applied to the men who owned the cows. (McMurtry never speculated on what would happen if a cowboy ever became POTUS. Wish he had.)

What drives capitalism?

Capitalism is driven primarily by spending, not investment.
Hi Rrhain,
I happen to think that capitalism is driven by the spirit Calvinism, in accordance with Max Weber's theory. Spending is only a measure of volume, not of a driving force. Investment can be seen as advanced spending. But that which drives American capitalism is identical to what which drives Calvinists (all modern Protestants) to be identified as the elect.

Investment without spending?
Rrhain writes:
Investing in a business is required, but it is inefficient: If the business fails, that money that was invested didn't contribute to the economy.
Yes it did. It bought materials and services.
That's why the Bush tax cuts haven't done anything to help the economy but actually made things worse: It didn't go to the people who would consume but rather to the people who would invest.
This makes no sense whatsoever. Do you really want to say that investors are not consumers?
I'm afraid your economic arugment is simplistic and unconvincing. Not surprising, though.

Shut up he explained. ”Ring Lardner
