In recognition of MLK day and inspired by Foxtrot 20-Jan-08 and the Gay marriage and the law thread.
I have a dream that a time will come when we don't need to think about anti-discrimination laws, that people won't feel the need to enforce arbitrary moral beliefs on others and understand that social laws should be a compromise based on practical secular solutions to real needs.
What is your dream?
Enjoy.

Re: Dreamscapes
I have a dream that one day I will be able to remember my dreams with regularity.
That may be more information than you want to know. Some good SciFi stories follow that theme.
Enjoy.

why not start a new thread?
If you'll allow it, anyone want to tell me the significance of remembering and not remembering dreams?
could be an interesting thread on it's own.

45 Years Later, and the Dream sees progress
Yes, it is only 45 years after I first heard Martin Luther King's "I have a Dream" speech. Reading it, hearing excerpts of it, still brings a tear to my eye and stirs the emotions for freedom and equality and justice.
And this year, pride as well. Pride that America has turned away from the shallow falseness of the Bush administration, yes, but pride even more that we, as a nation, have not allowed discrimination to affect an election, an election that will go down in history as part of that Dream:
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today."
I have a dream, that America will regain it's balance from the stumbling ineptitude of the Bush years, and once again take it's place as a Nation dedicated to truth, justice, equality and freedom. A nation that will hold these values inviolate even in the face of challenges of terrorism or the equally malevolent prejudices within. A nation that realizes that sacrificing any one of them for momentary security is to fail the American Dream.
I have a dream, that the people of America will be more important to government than the big businesses. That the welfare of the people will come first. That the well being of the workers of America will once again be seen as the foundation of the well being of the nation
I have a dream, that America will once again become a beacon of hope for people struggling under oppression, to looked to as an example of what could be for nations trying to build a new future.
Enjoy.

are there 1,000,000 dreams? - or should it be 6 billion?
Hey Mantis,
I have a dream that they would do that somewhere else, but publish their results here so we could benefit from the study.
I notice two things, (1) BobAliceEve does not mention which little square he wants to inhabit, and (2) that practically speaking you would need one square for each individual (try to get two people to agree on everything).
And of course, one should also start with a pilot study: where such isolationist people all get together and form one community of like-minded people, and demonstrate that they can run their affairs without depending on the rest of the world.
Curiously, the Dream is about people living together, accepting others as they are, and not about being isolationist and divisive.
Enjoy.
