Just a note to mark my feelings of loss over the death of the man in black. The world has lost a great singer and a rare combination of gentle touch and fighting spirit.

I think if John Ritter were alive today, he would want us to go on and not mourn his passing. I realize it's difficult to bear the thought of life without John's immense talent. However, we still have the gift he left us in the form of his "Three's Company" episodes and the film "Hero at Large," which most deservedly won the Palm d'Or at Cannes in 1980. I admit I didn't follow his recent work as much, busy as I was with my son's baseball team and my chemotherapy.
Only I don't remember him dressing much in black. Are you sure you're not thinking of George Hamilton in that Zorro movie?

Man in black
The man in black is Johnny Cash, not John Ritter, they died the same day. Another sort of intersting coincident is that Johnny Cash was a country singer and John Ritter was the son of country singer Tex Ritter.

I don't know if you saw John Ritter in Slingblade. If you didn't, you should probably see it. I thought that movie had suprisingly excellent performances by Ritter and Dwight Yoakam.

Oh come on people...how could you mention John Ritter without mentioning Skin Deep? I cannot watch Star Wars lightsaber duels without smiling anymore..

It was also Billy Bob Thorton's acting and directorial debut if I am not mistaken? In any case, it was an excellent movie and John Ritter and Yokam were surprisingly good.
