To me, it seems the sarcasm, writing styles, referencing tactic in the jokes, method of delivery is all too similar.

Yep - I've always wondered myself I have long followed and enjoyed lyx2no's posts from uncle through sad demise to nephew. I would say that the three possibilities are equally likely, but if I had to take a bet on it, I would probably go with - there was never an uncle, and it's always been the young lyx2no. But I don't dwell on it and take him at face value. He's far too amusing and clever to worry about it...
