OK - I guess we can wrap up this psychology study to determine what other members would choose to shine on with the crazy diamond.
Huntard and Phage0070 are the primary non-CD7 participants. As Gary Larson once said in one of his "Far Side" cartoons, "Of course they're fools. The question is, what kind of fools are they?"

Oh, how very clever and witty of you.
What ever happened to "Always treat other members with respect." Or is that just for members?
Edited by Phage0070, : No reason given.

Re: The "Return to Immortality -- There is no death by natural causes" topic
I thought it was funny.
Which is also what I thought of CD7's posts.
Which is also why I stopped participating there. There's no point in saying anything to CD7, he just gets more insane.

Re: The "Return to Immortality -- There is no death by natural causes" topic
Sure it was funny, CD7 is obviously a nutcase. But thats not the point.
Topics promoted into forums such as Faith and Belief are subject to the forum guidelines. Members are supposed to treat others with respect, argue the position not the person, and avoid hectoring among other things. My pointing out the similarities between CD7 and Dr. Strangelove was unfortunately hectoring, and I apologized for it.
The point is that there is moderation before every topic is promoted (to anything other than the Coffee House or Free for All at least). There is also presumably moderation within each thread to determine if the posts remain on topic and the thread continues at the standard required for promotion. CD7's thread was not only an abject failure of moderation on all of those counts, but it was apparently an intentional one.
This conveys a number of things to me, and the community at large. Skipping over the damage to any reputation EvC might have, it primarily erodes the authority any action of moderators might have. Have a thread proposal rejected? Apparently its just at a whim, because they will happily promote nonsense. Have a thread you are posting in closed? Apparently its just out of spite; CD7's thread is still not locked even after an Administrator posted in a moderation thread to that effect.
So there you have it. Hypocrisy and lack of respect for their own rules can only lead to the community sharing that lack of respect. Watch this space (my username) to see how.
Adminnemooseus, you are a fool. Apparently I am an idealist, what are you?

Re: !!!!! Goats on Fire !!!!!! Mabus is back !!!!! Again !!!!!
Yes, I know I am not supposed to post this here. But it didn't seem worth starting a new thread, and putting it here adds some context.
PZ Myers reports that Mabus showed up at an athiests convention in Montreal.

Those 4 new spam Coffee House topics almost flew under the admin radar
Thank you for pointing out those subtle efforts to sneak something past the astonishingly oblivious administrative staff.
Spammer permanently suspended and 4 new spam topics deleted.

Barack
As per Hyena Attacks I have reviewed the thread.
It's pretty light stuff for a debate. If you are looking for a 'dry' debate on the issues of global warming, then begin writing papers and engage in that debate in the journals. Here, the debate has a 'rough and tumble' feel to it, a clash of wits, a riposte, a parry a rhetorical flourish etc.
The guidelines are guidelines to avoid the tendency for flame wars, insult fests and generally more heat than light - not to completely remove spirited debate. The thread is clearly not one of the bests here, but then you are contributing with the 'liberal elite snob' counterthrust. With a dab of 'atheist conspiracy' theorizing and incessant ad hominems against Al Gore for some reason.
If you weren't doing things like that, and you were still getting the attitude you have received, I'd consider stepping in. But you're part of the furball now. Extract yourself and take the higher ground, or try to outwit them with some coup de grace. But don't complain to the moderators if you try the latter and it doesn't succeed as you might have liked. Sorry.

Re: Barack
Hi Barack,
I'd like to add just a little bit to what AdminModulous said.
First, I put your thread in Coffee House because it wasn't related to the creation/evolution debate, and we don't moderate threads in that forum as tightly as we doin the real discussion forums about science and religion that bear directly on the debate.
Second, despite that your thread has nothing to do with creation/evolution you insisted on framing the discussion along those lines and on making the discussion personal by referring to those who disagree with you in a denigrating way as AlGorians, atheists and Darwinists. The same attitude you started with is being reflected back at you.
So I strongly agree with AdminModulous. Take the high ground in the discussion and you'll find that moderators will be much more willing, and more importantly able in a practical way, to provide assistance.

Adminmodulous,
I disagree with your permanent banning of matt101. I've muddled through most of the stuff there on the human evolution thread. We can't ban people at the outset of their getting here! This isn't about which snobs we choose to be here, is it? This is a person coming with wild claims, truly wild ideas that directly oppose what the world has to offer. I ask you, does he not fit the core search pattern this website seeks to find (& cure)?
Some people have been banned here after long stints and it seems to relate to their hardened inability to accept well reasoned positions. That sort of thing I might possibly agree with at least on many levels. But this person practically screaming for help has been turned out to the cold. I disagree with that.

I'm seeing a 48 hour suspension. Unless something changes, Matt should be back in a couple days.

Getting suspended 3 times in about as many hours contains all the hallmarks of someone who is likely to be a bad influence on the quality of discussion here. I don't think I've indefinitely suspended a non-spam bot person here before - but given Matt wasn't even going to play by the rules of a short-term suspension (posting whilst suspended on another ID) I don't feel bad.
It is not permanent. Matt could email one of the Admins and discuss terms for his return - the emails are public.
