Throw a rope over a pulley. Give one end to a 160-pound US Marine and the other end to his 180-pound sickly grandpa. Who lifts whom?

There's gonna be a horizontal component to the force that the friction between his feet and the ground will have to overcome.
Yes, it becomes a complex vector problem with no easy intutitve answers.

Yes, the first step is to recognize that you need to analyze the problem, not just jump to the "obvious" conclusion that the stronger man wins.

I've actually done the experiment with a little guy who thought he was stronger than me.

Just as the people in front of Dr. A were walking through the entrance door, the store manager, having given his warning to the shoppers inside that it was time to close, noted that it was in fact now time to close and hit the switch that locked the entrance doors just fractions of a second before Dr. A stepped on them.
In my experience, the doors are turned off by a switch at the top of the door by a manager who is standing right there and who then locks the doors manually. It seems unlikely that they would be closed in somebody's face with no explanation.

In any case, Open the Goat! would be an excellent name for a TV show.
