Personally, I think that such an advance will free humans up to become more artistic, but I wonder how we will be able to understand and direct the technology if it progresses beyond the mathematical and technological comprehension of most of us?

It will mean more infotainment.
Unfortunately, that is likely the outcome. I see no evidence that any major technological-development endeavors in the near future will be geared toward anything other than perfecting and promoting 'fantasy machines'certainly not in America!
