Gday folks,
Speaking of the famous Sinaiticus -
Have a look at this little beauty !
A high-fidelity facsimile copy of the Vaticanus MSS (similar to Sinaiticus.)
http://www.linguistsoftware.com/codexvat.htm
A steal at less than $7000.
High on my list for when I win the lottery.

Re: Whats in it for them?
Gday,
Phat writes:
Writing took a lot of time back then. It was not as quick and easy as it is now.
So what?
Do you think therefore that means writers only wrote the truth?
Phat writes:
Why would the authors go to so much trouble to create and support a myth? Whats in it for them?
Why were the Greek myths created?
Why did the Hindu scriptures get written?
Why did Shakespeare write?
etc.
Phat writes:
They were to a man persecuted...
No they weren't.
There are LEGENDS that SOME writers were persecuted.
NO evidence though.
Phat writes:
i see no examples of an author or supposed author benefitting personally from spreading the story.
Who benefitted from the Greek myths?
Or Hindu scriptures?
Hmmm?
So therefore they are true? according to your argument?
K.

Re: The founders of the world's religions
Gday,
caffeine writes:
Buddhism - The Buddha is generally considered a historical figure
Sure - by Buddhists !
In fact, the evidence is doubtful.
caffeine writes:
Taosim - Dao is generally considered a historical figure
There is no historical figure "Dao".
The founder was a Lao Tzi - probably mythical.
caffeine writes:
Confucianism - Confucius is generally considered a historical figure
There is no hard evidence for Confucius - possibly mythical.

Re: Christianity without Jesus
Gday,
crashfrog writes:
I've spent more than a hundred posts, here, trying to get at the genuine, real historical evidence for the existence of Jesus, and all I've discovered is a thinly-sourced "expert consensus" that survives solely on the basis of directing ridicule at anyone who voices a disagreement.
Yah.
This is happening on several forums lately - a concerted effort to argue that :
* Jesus existed
* because there is a CONSENSUS of "experts"
* based on the Gospels etc. as historical EVIDENCE
* and anyone who disagrees is like a creationist or holocaust denier
I think the HJers are feeling the heat, and are desperately circling the wagons.
