Even people who disapprove of homosexuality can't try to sway others the way they did in the Prop h8 campaign, claiming vague "threats" to "normal" marriage. You can't run a campaign on "protecting marriage" any more when it's blatantly obvious in multiple other states that there's simply no enemy to defend marriage from. Especially when the most vocal advocates of the harm against "normal" marriage or the "sanctity" of marriage can't hold a steady marriage to save their life. The black and latino populations, after centuries of being oppressed, are doing a pretty good job at oppressing the gay population. Goddamn blacks and latinos...

Ever read Stranger in a Strange Land? Michael Valentine Smith, human raised by Martians, could not grok laughter ... until one day he observered monkeys in the zoo. If you do not know the rest of the story, then know this: Those who do not learn the lessons of science fiction are doomed to live them. What is the lesson learned by the oppressed? That when they have finally been lifted up, then part of their job is to do unto the oppressed that which had been done unto them? ... But then we have the German-Americans who emigrated to this country in the mid-1800's. Like my own ancestor from Baden. Who had had to suffer virtual slavery in their own German homelands under the reactionary governments in post-Napoleon Germany. When they arrived here, they became predominantly anti-slavery. They had learned their lesson; why can't others?

They had learned their lesson; why can't others? Because with both blacks and latinos, it stems from their religious beliefs. - Oni

Hey Oni,
It's nice to see you back. Hope you continue to make special guest appearances on the forum in the future.
Oni writes: Because with both blacks and latinos, it stems from their religious beliefs. You're probably right. But, I am not sure religion is FULLY at fault. E.g.: 1. Children who are abused often grow up to be abusers.2. After the lessons of the holocaust, the Jews oppress the Palestinians. 3. After hundreds of years of slavery, blacks vote against Gay rights. My girlfriend is a therapist. She explained this phenomena to me many times, but I still can't get my head around it enough to fully explain it.

You know about the stereotype that minorities like black and latino are uneducated and backward? Sure, not all of them are like that, but voting results continue to tell us that 70% of them are like that. Is it still stereotype if its true?

I don't think those are comparable.
1. They think its normal. 2. Israel has bent over backward maany times to appease the palastinian. Unfortunately, the pal leadership wants nothing but the extinction of israel. 3. Perhaps we should reinstitute segregation to remind them? I'm white so it wouldn't affect me. Don't care for their rights anymore.

Hi Dronester,
It's nice to see you back. Hope you continue to make special guest appearances on the forum in the future. Thanks, man. I'll try. We're on hiatus right now for two weeks so I got some time to get back into the debate, which I missed.
1. Children who are abused often grow up to be abusers. 2. After the lessons of the holocaust, the Jews oppress the Palestinians. 3. After hundreds of years of slavery, blacks vote against Gay rights. It makes sense, and I can follow the logic. I agree that it's probably a few different reasons for it. We also tend to come from rougher neighborhoods where gay or homosexual behavior makes you a punk, and an easy target. Our dads (those who have them around) are very homophobic even to the point of openly threatening to kill us or abandon us if we turn out gay. They too came from neighborhoods where you had to be a tough dude, and there was no room for gay behavior cause it could cost you your life. All this has rubbed off on the kids, especially with first generation born kids like me. But I think it's changing, maybe? - Oni Edited by onifre, : No reason given.

You know about the stereotype that minorities like black and latino are uneducated and backward? It has nothing to do with being a minority, it has to do with being poor. There are plenty of uneducated white people, but they too are usually poor.
Sure, not all of them are like that, but voting results continue to tell us that 70% of them are like that. What about all the white people in the red states that vote against gay marriage? Isn't the Tea Party made up of mostly white people? - Oni Edited by onifre, : No reason given.

Taz,
Taz writes: Israel has bent over backward maany times to appease the palastinian. Unfortunately, the pal leadership wants nothing but the extinction of israel. I recently read Anthony Dimaggio's "Why Jon Stewart and Politifact are Wrong about Public Misinformation" article. In it reads, " . . . a closer examination of the issues suggests that misinformation and confusion is rampant among those paying closest attention to national reporting and political debate." It might explain people like Buzz, Coyote and you. Because you are so incredibly wrong about item number two in my list, I am wondering if the author's hypothesis is correct regarding your above stance. Ah...............but: Voting results continue to tell us that at least 70% of every possible sub-grouping of all the voters you can imagine...are... uneducated and backward...(if not closer to 90%). It's like complaining that 70% of the voters wear clothes that you don't like. Is it still a "stereotype" that a good hefty 70% or more of all human beings wear clothes that you don't like? Food for thought. - xongsmith, 5.7d

Us whities are not the minority and so we have an excuse for not understanding what its like to be oppressed. Blacks and latinos have no excuse at all.

Actually, with regard to referandums like prop 8, the white pop showed only a slight imbalance. Its the minority groups that vote overwhelmingly bigotted.
Look, I go where the data tell me. I don't care about political correctness. We really should reinstitute segregation to remind them about the whole oppression thing. And shoot to kill at the southern border. We don't need more christian bigots making their way in here. We already got enough as is.
