Re: How Rational Are You?
You have a heart of stone and a spirit of neurons.
Actually my heart is of muscular tissue and my spirit is more along the cabernet line.
What if they later told you what they had done? Would the ring you now have mean any less to you?
As I said, "So, to me, if I purposely swapped out an identical ring, emotionally, nothing has changed." Whether I did it or someone else did it, the emotion is not in the thing but in the symbol.
Truthfully, I would be pissed as all get out, but only because that would mean someone was rifling through all my personal stuff. Throwing pots and pans tantrum time.
Sorry, Straggler. I know it's not normal to not have these kinds of feelings or lack of feelings. In my case seeming uber-rational is indeed illogical and irrational. But, here I am.

Re: How Rational Are You?
Your sentimental view of physical objects is very arguably irrational. It is only one step away from imbuing physical objects with immaterial properties of the type that is required for supernatural beliefs of the most base kind. The reason that most people would shirk from wearing the cardigan of a serial killer. The first step along the intuitive path that leads to the concept of the haunted house or the invoaction of some godly entity as a cause for the unexplained.
But it is these sorts of irrationalities that we are all prone to some extent or other.
Well except AZPau. He is just a fucking automaton!!

Man - You are a god damn robot!!!
I might as well be asking my toaster if it is happy or my MP3 player if it likes Jazz.

No. Really. I was born on this planet to non-mechanical biological beings. I have no special affinity for other electro-mechanical use-ware nor any bio-tritarian-based life forms.
Ha, Ha, you are funny.
Oh, BTW ...
I might as well be asking my toaster if it is happy or my MP3 player if it likes Jazz.
... the answer is yes in both cases.

The toaster's FaceBook status has changed from "In a relationship" to "Single" - it depends who dumped whom, but the toaster could now be unhappy.

Although procedures vary from one field of inquiry to another, identifiable features distinguish scientific inquiry from other methods of obtaining knowledge. Scientific researchers propose hypotheses as explanations of phenomena, and design experimental studies to test these hypotheses via predictions which can be derived from them. These steps must be repeatable, to guard against mistake or confusion in any particular experimenter. Theories that encompass wider domains of inquiry may bind many independently derived hypotheses together in a coherent, supportive structure. Theories, in turn, may help form new hypotheses or place groups of hypotheses into context.
