Get the transformer. I am more productive than ever before with the transformer. And if you know a little bit about soldering, you can solder in a 500 GB or 1T hard drive inside the tablet. Heat is not an issue. Trust me. I have been looking at the Transformer. MY wife needs a tablet of some sort for her work. She is currently still using an old Palm Pilot she originally got in residency 7 years ago. There have been some battery issues and app support for it is drying up. Lots of people are suing the Ipad but I see huge issues with it. Primarily that you need an Itunes account to effectively use it. Also, I do not want any tablet that is tied into a wireless carrier. I am not going to pay extra for a data package. If there is no wifi available then we wont need to access the internet. I has high hopes for the HP Touchpad, but it seems it was oversold and underbuilt. USB support is a big thing for me. I do not want to have to transfer everything wirelessly. I understand a new transformer is due in October. This will ahve the new Tegra 3 Kal-El chip and run the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. If the reviews are good and if the new medical records system at the clinic will support it, I think my wife may get one for Christmas. I am willing to take other suggestions, but I really want to stay away from the Ipad. The keyboard dock has 2 usb ports and a full size sdcard slot. The keyboard is 98% full size. The problem the transformer is having is that apple has managed to convince the populace that the tablet platform is strictly for fun and games. There is no better demonstration of this than the people I work with. They'd take their ipad 2s out to play with, but when it comes time for work they'd take out their laptops. I just click my transformer into the keyboard dock and work. I also use my transformer for viewing autocad and pdf files. Using a dagi stylus, I can write straight into the pdf files using repligo. My wife is a therapist. She uses her transformer for pretty much everything she does. The thing is a work of art! Edited by Taz, : No reason given.

I am a freaky privacy issue type of guy. Apple is terrible in the realm of privacy. So is Google. The difference is I have already sold my soul to Google and see no reason to sell it to a different devil. Yes, I recall you saying that the first time. Now, perhaps you would like to take a stab at actually answering the question?

Well, I use a 24 inch screen for my desktop at home (I'm using it right now) to do heavy duty work.
But there is no doubt that the asus transformer has transformed my life like nothing else. Instead of carrying around several reference books like ASTM and ACI, I now take everything with me in pdf format. I can actually look up things a lot faster, too, with all my pdf bookmarks. The transformer is not just a tablet. It's a tablet-laptop hybrid. It's not meant to replace a desktop. For those of us who are out of the house most of the day, the light weight of the tablet form coupled with the transformer's 16 hour battery life really is the best thing that has ever happened. My laptop has been sitting in my room collecting dust for 4 months now. Have not turned it on at all in the last 4 months.

(1) I predict that within a year or so android will make a bigger splash than iOS will ever. Android is very quickly becoming a full operating system while iOS remains just a phone OS.
(2) Regarding fragmentation, google has begun taking steps to pull all the pieces back together. If you haven't noticed, the source code of honeycomb has not been released and may never be released. (3) Have I mentioned iOS sucks

What more do you want for an answer? Do you want me to make something else up so that it fits you preconceptions?

How many different ROMs can you put on an iPhone? I've run, like, three different firmwares on my iPhone and tweaked all kinds of stuff thanks to Cydia apps. I can SSH into my iPhone. What are you talking about?
How many phones come with iOS stock? Um, like, half a dozen? iPhone 3gs in a couple different sizes, iPhone 4 GSM in a couple different sizes, iPhone 4 CDMA in a couple of different sizes. iPod Touch. iPad. There's like a dozen iOS devices, what are you talking about?
You are constantly left waiting for the sickly Steve Jobs to tell you what devices you want and when you will get them. I know it's Apple fans who get the reputation for unreasonable feelings about the platform, but I'm glad you and Theodoric are here to demonstrate that the truth is the exact opposite: it's Apple's detractors who have allowed passion to run off with their rationality. "Sickly Steve Jobs"? Really?
The only Android devices that aren't truly open source are due to the carrier or hardware vendors Right, but that's every single one of them. There are no open-source Android platforms. Android apps are still signed by Google, same as iOS apps are signed by Apple. The problem is Java - Java isn't free or open-source.
Secondly: what's with all the Apple lawsuits? Well, they sue because they have a bunch of patents. Everybody's doing it. I'm not here to defend the company or the legal environment; I'm just here to tell you why I would never in my life consider an Android phone.

Android is very quickly becoming a full operating system while iOS remains just a phone OS. Much like Linux I think Android is going to become the best OS for various niche installs. (For instance, I'd someday like to put together a Surface-style touchscreen table using Android. I'm just not ever going to make phone calls on Android.)
Regarding fragmentation, google has begun taking steps to pull all the pieces back together. If you haven't noticed, the source code of honeycomb has not been released and may never be released. Oh, so it's actually not an open platform. Well, good luck with that! I guess if you absolutely have to have 20 different fart apps, Android is your platform.

Why isn't that an answer? Because it makes no sense. Because you keep contradicting yourself - you keep trying to tell me what's so bad about Apple, and then you finish by saying that Google is exactly as bad. How am I supposed to make sense out of that? The privacy issues are just as bad on both sides, so you definitely prefer one over the other? Nonsensical.

umm, no.

Your point is? Forget it I don't care Since you seem to have some severe comprehension issues maybe we will just let this die right here. You are right I am wrong. IOS is the best, Android sucks. Now please just go away.Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts

I just opened a PDF file, but either this particular file disallows it or my version of Acrobat has no user created bookmark capability. What are you using to do PDF bookmarks, if you don't mind me asking? --Percy

I'm using repligo. Well, I use 2 apps to handle my pdf files. I use EZPDF to place bookmarks and comments. But on the go, I use repligo to look up bookmarks and write in comments. Repligo is by far the best pdf handler I have ever had.

"Sickly Steve Jobs"? Really? Apple detractor here (well, sort of). My only problem with Apple is the price. Nice products and nice interface, but way, way overpriced. I thought about building a Hackintosh a while back but never followed through. Each time I have thought about buying an Apple product I have this nagging feeling that I am paying way too much. MP3 player? Nice little 4 MB Creative Zen that cost 40% less than a comparable Apple iPod at the time. Still use it, and still love it. For those who think that extra money is worth it . . . more power to ya. Edited by Taq, : No reason given.

Although there was a time when things were very different (especially in Europe - back before I got my first Mac) Apple prices for the base machines aren't usually that bad - given what you get. Add-ons, even extra memory, ARE often unreasonably expensive - and building your own will always be cheaper than going to any major manufacturer.
This is even more true with tablets. Nobody seems able to offer to undercut Apple by much without going for a cheaper build. Asus went for a plastic shell for the Transformer - and that's the only major Android 3 tablet that I know of that started off cheaper than the iPad.

I think it’s a horrible gaming platform, unless gaming to you is angry birds, and crap like that. I don't know about that: I got rid of my DS because I could get more, better, cheaper games on my iPone. Deadspace, FTW!The above ontological example models the zero premise to BB theory. It does so by applying the relative uniformity assumption that the alleged zero event eventually ontologically progressed from the compressed alleged sub-microscopic chaos to bloom/expand into all of the present observable order, more than it models the Biblical record evidence for the existence of Jehovah, the maximal Biblical god designer.
