Re: Itunes account
I'm with you there. I finally got bored of the PC rat race, bought a 360 and have not missed anything about fiddling with options to get Oblivion or Crysis to do little more than stutter like a.....low frame rate PC game.
Easy mode made for parents to buy a platform for their kids.
ditto. it's quite nice to come home with a game and be playing it within 5 minutes of opening the box instead of spending time tweaking settings and updating drivers.
A fan of child’s play?
It’s even nicer to purchase the game from home, and download it in minutes, and not have to mess with hardware like disk drives, or even disks.
yes there is the RROD, I have yet to have it happen to me, but my brother is on his second xbox and I've heard tell of people on the 7th. And the PS3 has had issues as well I've heard.
I gave up on Xbox360 after my 3rd one broke itself. I have had much better luck with PS3.
Catholic Scientist writes:
I feel ya... Some games, though, you really need a mouse and keyboard (I realize they're available for consols too but mine's hooked up to my TV and I can't really use a M&K on the couch). Granted, some games are better with joysticks.
Please name one game that you play or have played in the last 10 years where a joystick is better than M&K? I cannot think of one.
Have you used Steam?
I love steam. I like how I don’t have to hold onto a pile of disks to run a game, I like how there is no fee (like xbox live), I like how I get multiple licenses so I can have the game I purchased on multiple PCs and I do not have to buy it each and every time. Steam is the best so far.
I just can't wait for the fun I'm gonna have with Origin for BF3
Me too. All hollowed are the Ori.
Consoles have their benefits, and then PC's have their reasons for being superior
Consoles are cheaper easier plug n play devices, they are designed for the low end user, usually children or the parents of said children to buy them a game playing device, that requires no intelligence to operate, and thus offers no options. If you modify your Xbox360 they (the Xbox powers that be) will ban you from using their Xbox Live service (a service that you have to pay for).
PCs are just more powerful, take more work, and more thinking to get them to function. They are a hell of a lot more user friendly than they were 15 years ago, and are not hard to use, but they are not for the lazy. The PC gaming community is well superior. Nothing like playing Black Ops on a console and being the oldest kid in the game, by more than double the age of everyone else playing, listening to crackly voiced dudes who’s balls aint dropped telling you they owned you, when they don’t even own the console the TV or the internet service they are playing on. I would rather play with kids my own age, on a PC.
I think another reason PC is not as popular is because the adults on the PC are way better than the kids on the consoles. When Battlefield: Bad Company2 came out, EA was experimenting with the idea of cross-platform multiplayer gaming, where I could be on a PC and playing with people on a console. After the Beta testing, they canceled the idea, because of the incredible lopsidedness of the results. The PC players completely dominated the console players, but then why wouldn’t they? They generally have better equipment, better internet connections, and a keyboard full of buttons (keys) compared to a controller with maybe 8 or 9 buttons, and a mouse versus a controller joystick (give me a break)!?!
And: bah! Just realised you guys are talking about Steam, not Live.
Yeah we are not big fans of paying for the opportunity to play games with children.

Re: Itunes account
Is it more adult to waste your time and money?
if you cannot understand the difference between adult things and child things I doubt I can explain it to you.
And a lot more money, too. Why does any of that make them "better"?
Are we Comparing a Mercedes Benz and a Kia? what makes a Mercedes "better" if the power, and engineering, is not part of the equation, after all your Kia (console) is so much cheaper, and you can still drive to work in it. ::rolls eyes::

you have a joystick for your PC? I wasn't even sure they made those anymore.

Re: Itunes account
LOL! Says the guy who's telling me all about video games. Yeah, just keep telling yourself how "adult" you are.
yeah I have been playing them since 1982, there is nothing childish about them, once again i can see you do not have the capacity to understand many things in this thread.
In point of fact, nothing makes the Mercedes better. Luxury cars are a scam for man-children who don't know the difference between price and quality.
evidence you haven't a clue what you are talking about. that was probably the stupidest post in this whole thread.

Re: M&K vs joystick
By "joystick" I meant the Playstation Controller ones... but to answer your question, yea I do have a joystick for my PC... for flying (its just too bad I fly way better with the mouse
ahh i was thinking more of a flight-stick controller, not a PS joystick.
But for MW3, since we're talking about modern warfare and the most powerful modern weapon to date is the knife... well, I just find knifing people a lot easier with a controller
so true. MW3 is probably going to be another kid's game if it follows its predecessors. I am not sure if I will get it or not. A great reason why they do not have supported online servers for the PC version, because their target audience is kids, and kinds play on consoles.
Too, Battlefield has so many more functions like squad commands and targeting that I think you pretty much need a keyboard.
which makes this more of an adult game, and a great reason why it did poorly on the console compared to on the PC.

Re: Itunes account
Having a big chip on your shoulder about being an adult. If you were really an adult, you'd play what you want. And you wouldn't be so threatened by people who do different things than you.
STRAWMAN ALERT!!!!!
I am not threatened, nor do I have a chip on my shoulder. You are just making shit up now.

Re: Itunes account
The problem for me is that I enjoy MMO's (just to brag, currently in the SWTOR beta). No one has made a decent MMO (IMHO) for consoles that I have seen. That could definitely change in the future, but at this point you need a PC if you want to play the best MMO's. The way that MMO's are currently designed it is nearly impossible to port them over to portable devices and consoles. They are too complex. A good example is FFXIV. They tried to make FFXIV as complex as other PC MMO's but still make it accessible to console players. It was a complete failure. DCUO is a major improvement over FFXIV, but it still isn't close the quality of other MMO's.
I agree (though FFXI was good on PS2, its was still better on the PC).
in addition to the complexity of the program, you have to consider the complexity of the audience. All of the girls out there, and the users who want touch screens, and controllers (mostly kids), do not have the desire or attention span to seriously play an MMO.
I really like DCUO.

ahh 1st strawman then ad hominem.
when logic fails go for the throat, not a bad strategy for a console guy, got it.

Re: suspension message and general warning
well if self defense is "contributing to making this discussion less than civil" then I'd say you got me. I never start with the name calling. I wasn't hot btw, but you are the boss around here i guess.
I could debate with most members here for many pages and it never gets to name calling (Oni, Dr. A, CS, to name a few), its just some members that have problems with other people who do not have the same opinion that they do. Is it coincidence that a user like this is a console gamer? I think not.
Back to the topic of macs being crappy:
I had a perfect example the past two days. My video card died, and thus I could not use my computer for two days (I don't know how long I was suspended but when i got my PC working again I could post here.). I simply bought a new video card and power supply, swapped the new with the old, and got back to gaming. If I had a Mac, I would have had to take my machine to an apple store for some "geniuses" to look at, fix, probably take all week, and then pay parts and labor (which would probably be close to the same as buying another device). not being able to spend money on parts and do your own labor, is another huge reason macs are bad IMO.

Re: Apple Expanding into the Workplace?
I think a lil may happen on the east and west coast, but for the most part i think this is doubtful at best.
Macs are not user friendly to work on, and I would bet most IT departments do not have certified "geniuses" working there, so they can't work on them.
seems like a bad idea (unless you get the people to pay for their own IT as well). We do have some Macs here, but it is only for 1-3 times a year that require the superior Mac image processing abilities, and then are not used the rest of the year.

I am not really sure, as I do not have one of the three macs where i work. They are only used very specifically a couple ties a year. I will ask and let you know.

hmm i liked your analogy.
I was a different student type, but i hear you.
I am just surprised that in the year 2011 there are so many tech illiterates out there.
I maybe only have a 1st or second grade tech education, but i can read!

I have been hearing for years that Mac has better graphics processing capabilities.
What does that mean? In what way is Mac better?
We used PCs and macs for Raster based image processing, and the macs were faster. So instead of a PC taking 3-5 hours to process raster data, a mac could do it in 1-2 hours. As far the specifics go it was not important, just the speed and time to complete the job, meaning more raster jobs could be completed (and thus more work and profit) when using a mac.
All data is vector data now so thankfully no need for the macs.
crashfrog writes:
Probably nothing. I don't know what people mean when they say that Macs are better for imaging. I think it's just something that people heard and repeat. I doubt AE could tell you what he means.
Clueless as usual.

Re: Apple Expanding into the Workplace?
nope, it wasn't.
Saying "macs are faster" without identifying the hardware involved is very misleading.
in general yes, but I a referring to a specific job instance, believe me we didn't want to use macs.
the PC's in question could have been using dual-cores while your macs had quad.
nope all were quads.
Data is not processed by the OS.....
yeah I am not talking about the OS, I am talking about the speed to process raster image data. one was faster than the other, it's pretty simple. Getting the job finished 40% faster is 40% more profit.
