Re: Metals Corrosive Resistant. And Desirable

How about non-corrosive.
That term would not apply to the context of our discussion. That silver is non-corrosive means it would not corrode other things. The context of this discussion is that it is not readily corroded, i.e. corrosive resistant.
H2SO4 applied to test silver will turn it gray but will not corrode it as with iron or brass. Lead, also is corrosive resistant, but not scarce and not suitable for jewelry, etc. It lacks desirability.
Thus again, the reason silver & gold have traditionally been considered precious metals, suitable for monetary backing.

How do you figure "stability", Buz? Every time they mine some silver, it inflates any silver note currency. Last year they mined almost a billion troy ounces of silver. Gold is even worse.
Anybody can go in and mine some silver, Buz. The US dollar has the major advantage that the only source of them is the Federal Reserve Bank.
Mmm, Crashfrog. Anybody? How and where? where??; where???. What are you waiting for????
How come there's never, in human history, been enough gold and silver to render it as value-less as paper? There has never been enough to depreciate its value.
Monetarily, inflation devaluates. due to the unlimited availability of paper.

Have you ever noticed how many folk are trying to sell you their gold for paper money?
They're not just trying. There are ready buyers anxious to buy. They're either suckers, needy, market traders or acquiring cash for highly profitable enterprises, etc.
abe: There are not many trying to sell me gold. I'm not a gold buyer, perse. There are more profitable ways to use my limited cash. My income does not warrant accumulation of it. I have other non-paper assets which will be best for me at my age.
Edited by Buzsaw, : No reason given.
