Hi dronester
By the way, what do you call this coin?
A relatively rare (now) US nickel made between 1913 and 1938. If the ground were a raised mound, then it would be an even rarer US nickel.

I am a gay robot, the man said, according to the Iowa City Patch. I oppose Bachmann’s position on gays, whether they are human or robot.

Hi all
Barack Obama Wins New Hampshire 2012 Democratic Primary | HuffPost Latest News
quote:
President Barack Obama has won New Hampshire's Democratic primary.
Far fewer voters participated in the Democratic primary than the competitive GOP primary, which was also being held on Tuesday.
There were 13 other candidates on the Democratic ballot Tuesday. The sample ballot below shows the Democratic candidates listed, via the New Hampshire Secretary of State website:
Apparently Obama got 80% of the vote, but I have not seen any breakdown, but this is no prediction of how many would vote for Obama in the election.

Perry bows out endorses Gingrich
Not only has Romney lost Iowa ...
http://www.washingtonpost.com/...01/19/gIQA1aw19P_story.html
quote:
Romney loses Iowa win; Perry out, backs Gingrich, whose ex-wife says he sought open marriage
Mitt Romney was stripped of his Iowa caucus victory Thursday, then was stung by Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s withdrawal and endorsement of Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker who was stunningly accused in turn by an ex-wife of seeking an open marriage so he could keep his mistress.
Newt’s not perfect, but who among us is, said Perry, abruptly quitting the race shortly before an evening debate and less than 48 hours before the polls open in Saturday’s first-in-the-South primary.
His decision to end a once-promising candidacy left Romney, Gingrich, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and Texas Rep. Ron Paul the remaining contenders in the race to pick a Republican to challenge Democratic President Barack Obama this fall.

Re: Perry bows out endorses Gingrich
The SC results today should be interesting.
Is it just me or does the (liberal of course ) press keep reporting how the (IA caucus, NH primary, SC primary ...) pick the eventual winners?
Has every newscaster forgotten that the GOP changed the primary rules this year by making results proportional for the national convention, not winner take all?
quote:
The New Republican Primary Rules Make It Possible For The Republican Establishment To Steal The Nomination From A Candidate They Don’t Like
New Republican primary rules are going to make it basically impossible for any candidate to wrap up the Republican nomination very early in 2012. In fact, the new Republican primary rules make a "brokered convention" much more likely and they also make it much more likely that the Republican establishment will attempt to steal the nomination away from a candidate that they do not like. How exactly they would do this will be discussed later in the article. The key is that most Republican primaries and caucuses will now allocate delegates using a proportional system rather than a "winner take all" system.
The following rule was adopted by the Republican Party back in August 2010....
"Any presidential primary, caucus, convention, or other meeting held for the purpose of selecting delegates to the national convention which occurs prior to the first day of April in the year in which the national convention is held, shall provide for the allocation of delegates on a proportional basis."
This new rule means that delegates will be apportioned to candidates on a proportional basis in Republican caucuses and primaries that are conducted prior to April 1st. One notable exception to this rule is Florida, which got approval to remain a "winner take all" state. So Florida will be very important.
Prediction: Gingrich wins SC, Romney second, Paul third, Santorum fourth, Cain (he's still on the ballot) fifth, news pundits go wild.
Note further that "Super Tuesday" is March 6th:
quote:
2012 Primary Schedule
The 2012 GOP primary/caucus schedule is nearly set in stone. The calendar dates below are believed to be accurate unless last minute changes occur to the schedule. Always check with your local board of elections to verify election dates, times and locations ahead of time. Note that "Super Tuesday" in 2012 falls on March 6th, however, it is a little less "super" than it has been in years past.
It's going to be fun watching the media posturing.
Enjoy.

Hi anglagard,
At 77.2% reporting in:
Gingrich 40.8%
Romney 26.5%
Santorum 17.5%
Paul 13.5%
Cain (Colbert) 1.0%
That Santorum can't seem to get traction among the evangelicals should tell you something -- that he is too fanatic for the fanatics?
Note he still had the sweatervest on last time he was seen in public:

men are not forced to carry the result of rape within their bodies
Ummm... not all women get raped, and not all rape victims are women.
And the "result of rape" as compared to consensual sex is the psychological damage of being an unwilling victim forced to do unwanted things. This applies to raped men as well as raped women.
Thanks.

It makes me want to puke when I read\listen to santorum's rants
Santorum: Higher Education a Plot to Secularize America – Mother Jones
quote:
here's the latest:
On the president’s efforts to boost college attendance, Santorum said, I understand why Barack Obama wants to send every kid to college, because of their indoctrination mills, absolutely ... The indoctrination that is going on at the university level is a harm to our country.
He claimed that 62 percent of kids who go into college with a faith commitment leave without it, but declined to cite a source for the figure. And he floated the idea of requiring that universities that receive public funds have intellectual diversity on campus.
Now, this is a new one to me. It's commonplace for movement conservatives to believe that universities are dens of depravity and radical left indoctrination. So far, so normal. But as far as I know, most of them don't believe that efforts to get more kids into college are motivated by a desire to destroy their faith. That's a step beyond even normal wingnut land.
Then there is his silly grandstanding misinterpretation of the wall between church and state, as stated by Kennedy.
[/puke]
Next will we see Mitt try to out fanatic this?
Enjoy

Re: It makes me want to puke when I read\listen to santorum's rants
Hi Dr Adequate,
Well of course. Citing sources would make him one of Them.
Actually I remember this being brought up here, although I can't vouch for the actual percentage. Can't find the reference.
The problem of course is conflating kids with falsified beliefs (such as a young earth and\or misinformation about evolution, then being confronted with the evidence that shows such beliefs to be false, and the subsequent loss of faith) with kids of all other faiths.
Losing or letting go of falsified beliefs is a good thing, isn't it? Isn't that what a good education is all about?
Don't blame college for faith loss, experts tell Santorum - The Salt Lake Tribune
quote:
There is no statistical difference in the dropout rate among those who attended college and those that did not attend college, said Thom Rainer, president of the Southern Baptists’ LifeWay Christian Resources research firm. Going to college doesn’t make you a religious dropout.
So the kids lose (dropout) faith whether they go to college or not? Should they not be comparing the dropout rates for kids of different religious backgrounds instead? That's an expert?
quote:
A 2007 LifeWay survey did find seven in 10 Protestants ages 18 to 30 who went to church regularly in high school said they quit attending by age 23. The real causes: lack of a robust faith, strongly committed parents and an essential church connection, Rainer said.
LOL: it's the parents fault not the school ... the kids don't have a strong enough faith ...
Perhaps it's because they were told things that just are not true and that led them to question the whole kit and kaboodle?
[abe]: this article ...
College Kills Faith? - FactCheck.org
... provides more information on what Santorum probably based his claim on, as well as showing how much Santorum misrepresented Obama's position, when in fact it matches his own (or what he claims anyway).
Of course the gullible will not be swayed by the actual facts.[abe]
Enjoy.

So we get 'intellectual diversity" by testing everyone and then making sure we have some really really fucking stupid students, really fucking stupid students, plain fucking stupid students, smart students, brilliant students and geniuses?
What, some kind of affirmative action for kids that don't make the grade?

prescient Mitt?
from
Mitt Romney Recalls Parade That Occurred Before He Was Born | HuffPost Latest News
quote:
Mitt Romney came under criticism Monday for recalling a seminal moment from his childhood in Detroit that actually took place nine months before he was born.
Mitch Potter of the Toronto Star on Monday questioned a tale that the former Massachusetts governor recently told to a Tea Party crowd of attending the Golden Jubilee. Romney told the gathering in Milford, Mich., he was "probably 4 or something" at the time of the jubilee, which attracted 750,000 people to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the American automobile. There was just one problem.
"The Golden Jubilee described so vividly by Romney was indeed an epic moment in automotive lore," Potter writes. "The parade included one of the last public appearances by an elderly Henry Ford. And it took place June 1, 1946 -- fully nine months before Romney was born."
