It's been hijacked with the #TRUTH. Let's get serious guys, we're talking free healthcare here.
Let me make myself perfectly clear: I''m not proposing free healthcare for anyone but me and my generational cohorts.
If you're too hurt, sick or worn down to contribute productively to the tax base that sustains my senescence, you should be culled.
Keep working out, kid, that's fine--but mostly, just keep working.

Re: We All Get Old and Decrepit No Matter How Many Sit-Ups We Do
People who exercise fanatically and eat healthily still get sick, still have accidents and are not immune to things like birthing complications.
Hey look, I recognize we're a weak species. My solution, while very effective, is not going to happen overnight. I'm combating YEARS of shitty living, from the crappy TV dinners of the 50's and 60's when women took to the work force (another issue), to todays fast food addiction.
I'm trying to change the world, not just alleviate our wallets of a few dollars. Granted, my solution would alleviate our wallets of a few dollars too.
Nor is someone like Stephen Hawking in the situation he is because of a lack of push-ups, too many burgers or an irresponsible approach to broccoli intake.
Under the healthcare plan I'm suggesting, there would be no Stephen Hawking to worry about.
To who do you think nature-defying medical treatments can justifiably be given? Anyone at all? Don’t ALL medical treatments defy nature? Isn’t that kinda the point of them?
Those who are in great physical shape with zero trace of disease or infection. Keep these people alive, and in a few generations you'll see a better species.
How far can you take this whilst answering questions consistently before you are laughing too hard to type? Let’s find out..
Your health, and that of other members here, is not a joke.

A better species? A better species?
The species produced moi--what could be better than moi?
Having produced me, the species only need be good enough to sustain me.

Oh the irony.
Every post has been on topic, if obliquely and, sometimes (in the case of others) sardonically or satirically.
Still, fine, I'll go clip my coupons.

Yes. Yes.
The species produced moi--what could be better than moi?
A healthier you that doesn't need government aid. The less you take care of yourself, the more you'll need healthcare and that IS what has cause the downfall of our medical/insurance industries.
A healthier American would need less heathcare. Period.
Having produced me, the species only need be good enough to sustain me.
We probably should have a system in place to check who should and shouldn't be procreating, to avoid the "the species only need be good enough to produce me" opinion.
The species NEEDS to produce a BETTER you.

Re: Topic
I'm focusing on these two points from your OP:
quote:
* That the present system of healthcare in the USA is neither capitalism nor socialism, but an evil hybrid producing the worst of both worlds.
* That it is undeniably best that the USA should have public healthcare.
I believe it is an evil hybrid producing the worst of both worlds, and I've given great suggestions as to how to alleviate the problem. Low carb diet, exercise, healthy living, reduces our individual need for the healthcare system. That way we take the power away from insurance companies, big pharm and the rest of the capitalist assholes, and also, remove the need for socialized medicine.
If every American looked inward and focused on how they can help themselves, instead of looking at the government to solve things, we'd be much better off.
Some other posters have tried to derail the topic with jokes and anecdotes, but I've tried my best to bring it back on track.

Re: It's not the calories or the activity
There's only so many hours, so you're not just talking about a "lifestyle of exercise", you're asking people to abandon other leisure activities in favor of exercise.
We can start by putting down the Burger King that's been freshly DELIVERED to peoples homes. All of it really, McDs, Pizza Hut, KFC and Popeyes for black people, Taco Bell, etc...it's basically the LEGAL sale of cyanide wrapped in a fancy wrapper that comes with a Transformer cup for our kids.
You want free healthcare? Put the fucking burger down, Mc Fatso!
And, of course, this is all enforced by the healthcare gun to your head, even if your disease is not actually related to your weight or fitness.
Lets not forget weak DNA and, with the case of Magic, it goes back to unhealthy living. He got HIV from having unprotected sex with a hooker, while he was MARRIED. Tisk tisk. It's natures cure to wreckless sexual activity.
They're walking, at least; I'm sitting here on a couch watching Downton Abbey, for which I'm sure you'll call me a fag.
I'd much rather you'd be out there getting a nice jog in or bike ride in, I would hate for you to get AIDS from that show.
Our doctors are genuinely worse but they get paid the most of any nation's doctors.
Can you blame them? Having to give some fat fuck diabetes meds and you see him/her come in for check ups with ketchups stains on their clothes and Big Mac breath? I'd lose the will to want to treat people too if I had to watch some guy eat himself to death while begging me for medicine. Take your ass to the gym blimpy!

I know you're joking, onifre, this one just hits really close to home. So I'll just say "fuck you" to anyone who actually thinks anyone deserves HIV/AIDS for any reason whatsoever, "reckless behavior" or otherwise.

The human understanding when it has once adopted an opinion (either as being the received opinion or as being agreeable to itself) draws all things else to support and agree with it.

"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers

Well you're really not.
Yes, there are things we can do as individuals to keep ourselves healthy, but this has nothing to do with the topic of what we should do when people get sick.

Like I said, let them die. What do you do when an ape is sick or a dolphin? It just dies. But not us, we flood the world with the sick and weak then bitch about more healthcare. We can stand to do with a bit of natural selection if you know what I mean.
How can we bitch about healthcare when we provide no personal care for our own health? People DON'T CARE ABOUT HEALTH, they just want free shit! If there was ANY concern for healthcare in America from Dems or Rep there would be a constant flow of demands to shut down fast food places. We souldn't be occupying Wall Street, we should be occupying Mc Donalds and BK.
Plenty have engaged in this debate with me, and as you can see I have decimated their arguments and stiffled them.
