Re: Topic
I can't tell if you're a sociopath or merely a troll. Either way, I should like you to take your ravings to a thread where they have a shred of relevance to the topic.
The first part of your post is just you lashing out with ad hominems.
The second part requires you to be an admin, and since you're not, I'll ignore it.

Would anyone like to rehearse the arguments against the motion whilst we await the arrival of someone with a relevant point of view?

Re: It's not the calories or the activity
I dunno, you see some pretty big beer guts on those starving kids in Africa.
And they're not obese. So what's your point?

I dunno, what was yours? It certainly wasn't to address anything I'd said.

Re: It's not the calories or the activity
Wasn't your post titled 'It's not the calories or the activity'?
How does: "And yet obesity is more prevalent in societies with higher caloric intakes and sedentary lifestyles." not address this?
Are you, along with apparently everyone else in this thread, just fucking around?

How does it address it? I'm lost as to what you think your single uncited correlation demonstrates.

Denying medical attention to anyone who is ill or injured is only part of the way to achieve your goal. The other, and more effective approach, is eugenics.
If only those with the traits you desire are even allowed to breed (or even live) then that is the safest surefire way to achieve your goal no?

Re: Adminitrator help?
Keep working out, kid, that's fine--but mostly, just keep working.
I likey your style.
Keep working out and die perfectly healthy. Maybe if your lucky you will have saved enough money to have your body crioed awaiting a new reboot. But dont forget just because your frozen does not exempt you from paying your taxes.

Re: It's not the calories or the activity

Obesity is directly the result of consuming too many calories and not exercising enough. There are cases of genetic predisposition or physical disorders, but these are not the norm.
quote:
Wikipedia on Obesity:
At an individual level, a combination of excessive food energy intake and a lack of physical activity is thought to explain most cases of obesity. A limited number of cases are due primarily to genetics, medical reasons, or psychiatric illness. In contrast, increasing rates of obesity at a societal level are felt to be due to an easily accessible and palatable diet, increased reliance on cars, and mechanized manufacturing.
And you know my fondness of maps:
Caloric Intake: Red = More, Yellow = Less (full key: Wikipedia)

Obesity of Males: Red = More, Yellow = Less (full key: Wikipedia; Click here for data on females)

No honest person would discount the relationship between caloric intake, exercise, and obesity. Which is what makes me think you're just fucking around. In which case, I've better things to do than play silly games.

But seriously folks

Yes, but I expect my senior tax exemptions to cancel those out.
There are really only two things I have left to say in this thread.
First, Dr Adequate's proposition in toto is, indeed, irrefutable.
The component propositions already suggest the arguments that make it so. Perhaps that is why no real opposition has been articulated from an opposing camp, and why Oni's venture sparked so many similarly natured replies, along with some ill-natured carping.
Second, satire, parody, mockery and their brethren are legitimate; Dr A frequently employs them.
I can understand his frustration that the thread brims with such contributions from others, but an objection from the most savage wit on the board seems a bit...well, not hypocritical, exactly, but certainly ironic.
I am content with my contribution and, partly out of respect for the well constructed OP and Dr A's request, as well as considerable respect for Dr. A himself, content to wait for more substantive contributions from those opposed to public health care.
I don't think we'll see them.

Either Oni has had some type of head-trauma recently or this isn't Oni.
Or it is Oni behaving outrageously? His first few posts had me wondering if he had been so taken in by his love of Ron Paul that he had lost the plot. See Message 31 and downthread for my reasons for that suspicion.
However after a few more posts it became increasingly obvious he was playing some sort of devils advocate. Then when he started on about fake breasts and athletes that never die it should have been clear to all that it was a wind-up.
However - The question remains - Did Oni start out in any way serious or is the entire thing a gigantic pisstake. His advocacy of Ron Paul ( a man who makes intellectual consistency synonomous with lunacy) makes me think that there was some initial spark that might have caused his current slide into parodic nutjobbery.
But I am both a conspiracy theorist and someone desperate for a disagreeable debate partner. So take no notice of me.
But will the real Oni please stand up.....?

We'll see.

You miss understand. I wouldn't deny anyone anything. Free healthcare should be for Americans who value their health, not for the slobs that frequent the fast food places and gorge on garbage. If someone like that needs medical attention, pay for it out of your own pocket! Why should people like that get to be a burden on the state/government?
Why should those people be allowed to increase MY health plan when I'm fit, healthy, eat low carb, and exercies often if not all the time, mostly?
If only those with the traits you desire are even allowed to breed (or even live) then that is the safest surefire way to achieve your goal no?
Come on, I'm talking natural selection not forced selection.
Have you personally ever required any medical attention for anything ever?
Yes. And I paid for it. Also, I limit getting medical attention and save it ONLY for extreme situations since I intend to pay for the service. Why should the government provide me with FREE healthcare for that? I'm speaking hypothetically of course since I WOULD qualify since, I workout.

How about giving me a proper answer?
I thought I did. If you're over wiehgt and you fell down that's your fault. Even if you're old you should be exercising so don't give me that excuse. Jack LaLanne ring a bell? You think that guy needed health insurance? Probably, but probably not.
The government needs to provide you with FREE healthcare cause you slip and fell? Please...
