Re: So what was the point of this thread?
When does a human being become a human being in your mind?
HUH?
A human being is a human being.
The issue is "When does something that is not a human become a human being?"
That's been answered several times.

When do the so called "Pro-Life" people even have a say in the issue?
When those that oppose Choice step up and unconditionally commit to accepting, supporting, raising and adopting every potential human being that any mother considers aborting, then, and only then, might they have any right to a voice in the issue.

The brain might be essential to someones awareness or perception of "soul" but still not dependent on the brain for its existence.

Re: Previous thread/s
that depends on what "the point" is, and so far the only point from shadow or JBR seems to be that they get to decide and be allowed to impose their religious beliefs on you.

Re: So what was the point of this thread?
As with most every other part of this thread, there is no right answer to that question without first really defining which meaning you are applying to the term "sentient".
Like life itself, sentience is a spectrum. There are things that are clearly sentient and other things that are clearly not sentient and in between a broad spectrum of types and ranges of things that are kinda sentient and kinda not sentient.
If a fetus (not yet a human) in the womb has a developed brain and nervous system (somewhere around the third trimester) it may exhibit some of the looser definitions of sentience, but certainly not full human sentience.

"soul" should be irrelevant and thus excluded.
Well, I think anything related to some "soul" is utterly irrelevant. The existence of some "soul" can never be more than a religious position and a religious position or belief should never be a basis for either general moral decisions or law.

Re: So what was the point of this thread?
You may well believe that cells are sentient, but that is irrelevant to the actually issue of "When does human life begin?"
There are people that believe the dead talk to people through a Ouija board and folk that believe in ghosts and gremlins, but such beliefs are not relevant to issues of law.
If you think human life begins at conception, then by all means, don't have an abortion. However to imagine that you should be allowed to impose your beliefs on others is simply a position of extreme hubris.

Re: So what was the point of this thread?
There are no facts relating to "soul" other than Big Momma Thorton, Bessie Smith and Aretha Franklin.
Any talk about soul is totally irrelevant and inappropriate in the Science sub-forums.

Summation
So far there has been no evidence presented that might establish when a human life begins.
Several posts have tried to introduce totally irrelevant stuff like "Soul" as though that had any bearing on the question.
