IF:
Newt Gingrich, John Huntsman, and Ron Paul get the nomination, Obama is in trouble because:
I thought only one individual could get the nomination?
- Gingrich has balanced the budget and worked with Dems, despite all the skeletons in his closet.
Actually there are a couple things wrong with this. He, along with all of his fellow Republicans, actually opposed the 1993 budget (OBRA) which helped balance the budget at the time by raising taxes on the wealthy among other things. The Balanced Budget Act of 1997, which Gingrich claims is the reason for the surplus of 1998, actually increased the deficit by $21 Billion for that year. He has enough skeletons in his closet to corner the market on organic soil supplements.
- Huntsman is liberal enough to scoop in a good portion of Dems and GOP's
The fact that he worked for the Obama administration for two year's makes his nomination unlikely, especially since Huntsman has only made half-hearted attempts to pander to the far right to get any shot at the nomination. Denying climate change for a day and then flipping back to accepting it isn't going to win votes on either side. You look uncertain, confused or at worse, like a panderer. He isn't going to get enough Dems or Independents because he also wants to overhaul Medicare by voting for the Ryan plan or by block-granting it, which is opposed by the vast majority of Americans.
- Ron Paul will find out he has alot more supporters than first though because none of them believed he can win until now.
Ron Paul has too many skeletons in his closet (some even racist). There are people out there who might appreciate his isolationist stances on non-intervention and the wars and a few might appreciate his stance on the Fed, but there are certainly not enough Dems or independents crazy enough to hand him any wins. I doubt his conspiracy-mindedness will become catchy enough to win anything but a few states toward a nomination, and virtually none against Obama. at best he would be a spoiler, a la Nader.
Addendum: Ron Paul thinks just about everything is unconstitutional including: Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the National Labor Relations Board, the Federal Reserve, income taxes, the dollar bill (paper money), and the Departments of: Education, Energy, Agriculture, Commerce, Homeland Security, Health and Human Services, and labor.
